Windows 10 has been, or will be downloaded today for those who reserved - Don't delete C:\$windows.~BT

GoodBytes

I'm assuming I'll be able to upgrade for free for a year like it says right?  I tend to not get new versions of windows right when they come out thanks to a few bad experiences.

Correct. The limited time offer for getting Windows 10 end July 29th, 2016.

Microsoft said yes. But to get Windows 10 for free you need to do the upgrade first. Once you have done the upgrade, then you re-install via the Windows 10 ISO.

We still don't know any details on entire process.

Do we know if we'll need the "upgraded" product key or will we just log in with our Microsoft account?

Hm, I know it launches on the 29th, but according to which timezone? oO

I assume the one Microsoft's Headquarters is in. West Coast in the USA, because that's Washington State.

In the case anyone notices that their C:\ drive just got smaller on itself. The Windows 10 reservation software has already downloaded Windows 10 setup for the upgrade on July 29th, for many. Others will be downloaded today. If you were late to the reservation, or Microsoft servers are too busy, or you are not online for a while, you'll get the OS update the 29th, or even later on reaching a week or so after Windows 10 has been released.

Windows 10 upgrade setup is located in: C:\$windows.~BT

So, if you notice this folder, and wonder what it is. Don't delete it. (The folder might be marked as 'hidden').

Microsoft will unlock and activate the Windows 10 install at midnight tonight. However, the entire distribution is in waves, which can up to a month (so in August), if you are unlucky.

The size of the folder is bigger than expected, as it includes large day 1 patch.

Nothing happening here. Then again, it still hasn't given me the check report for compatibility. Not seeing the windows 10 thing in the windows update window either, so maybe everything's broken, and I need to reinstall.

Yup, as you noticed on your later post, it is downloading.

I don't think so. My Surface Pro 2 doesn't have it yet, either. You and my Surface Pro 2 (my desktop is on insider preview), are probably on a different wave. So maybe later today, or tomorrow, or next day, or if unlucky.. August. :S

well technically you can do a clean install once they release an ISO. but you gotta do a registry edit to get it to validate.

That folder seems to contain the installer for the IR3 release of Windows 8.1. I only see the sources folder. Contains everything it should, but it's missing install.wim.

You should make space then, because Windows 10 will keep your own Windows under Windows.OLD folder.

Also, if you are tight in space, Windows 10 will be compressed. Meaning it will run slower, and your CPU usage will be high as it decompresses things and recompress them as it goes. Try and have at least 30GB free.

My entire C partition is 50GB...

Managed to get 15GBs free.
