Leaked Note 5 prototype images

The Note 5 is definitely starting to look really nice. Also would like to take this moment to point out that there were many people saying on the last Note 5 thread I made that those pictures were not renders, when this article proves that they clearly WERE renders. @JelleDekkers I hope you enjoy your likes.

The first image gives us a glance at the front of the phone, which we seldom get to take a look at, especially with the screen turned on. One can even admire what TouchWiz will be like in the new generation Galaxy Note. The UI touts the usual colorful icons and “bubbly” experience. In addition, there are some helpful shortcuts and content on the top. Oh, and the icons in the home screen tell us this happens to be an AT&T version. This doesn’t tell us much we didn’t know, but it’s still nice to admire the gadget.

The most interesting part of this leak is the couple other photos, which showcase the stylus dock. It was previously believed the stylus would have auto-ejecting capabilities. Then rumors suggested it would be a push-to-release mechanism. These rumors were then contradicted by Korean source, which indicates the stylus release method will be similar to all previous Note handsets.

These new images do corroborate the S Pen will have to be manually removed, just as it has been in the past. There seems to be a small gap in one side of the accessory, making it possible to pull it by using a finger nail.

I think Samsung are actually starting to impress me for the first time since the S3 in the looks department. The fit and feel of touchwiz still needs fixing though, I can't stand it yet. However they still need expandable storage to woo me over, so if the note 5 doesn't have it I'll be severely unimpressed.

I really wish the S6 had an micro sd card slot. So I could put movies on it.

Is that micro usb? It doesn't look like a Type C connector imo :S

yep microusb, to be honest, whats the point of type c right now on mobile?

Rumors have said that its going to be a 5.9" screen, really hope its 5.7" like before. Would be first choice for upgrade if so.

also, got a sheet of 3M wrap, that phone is going to be amazing with carbon fiber

It's literally the only place it makes sense to have it, it's supposed to be a stronger connector while being small plus it's reversible.Going from micro usb3 to  micro usb2 is a downgrade and stupid, this is a huge deal breaker imo.

Ehhh. Not overly impressed. I mean it's nice, but not wildly different than last years device. If they crammed a massive battery in there I'll approve.

Aren't most of them 32gb+?
Lots of room for movies...

32GB is standard now for Notes. Not sure about the S series

Biting electronics is a pretty sexy trend.

I'm convinced the people that are always complaining about storage size have a huge porn collection or something.

Gotta have the porn on the go.

I'm also pretty convinced that most people who complain about expandable storage don't even use that storage, they just like seeing big numbers on their phones.

I liken it to people who complain about backwards compatibility on consoles. I doubt they would even use it.

Anyway, sad to see no USB-C. I've grown to love reversible connectors and after many years of loose micro usb ports, I have grown to hate that platform.

The problem with the whole "just get the bigger capacity model" argument is that manufacturers love to overcharge for it. It's like 200 dollars extra for 90GB.

It's also about losing options. It's never a good thing to lose upgradability.

Ehen sid it become popular to mock people who want/need more from their computers than you do? I've seen it a lot regarding phones but it seems to become popular with desktops as well (people telling others they don't need a good CPU and do on).

Hugo Barra (Xiaomi's VP) spoke about why Xiaomi don't put micro SD card slots in their flagships anymore and to be honest, he makes a great point as to why.

Hugo Barra (Xiaomi's VP) spoke about why Xiaomi don't put micro SD card slots in their flagships anymore and to be honest, he makes a great point as to why.

And I made a response to his (in my opinion idiotic claims):

I don't think they were. Here are his 2 points and here are my responses to them.

Point 1) They would have to compromise the design.

You could say this about anything. The phone already has 2 SIM card slots but obviously they thought that was worth the miniscule increase in size it adds. I see people every day say that they would gladly have their phones slightly thicker if it meant they could have a bigger battery. At some point phones will get thin enough, and I think we have already passed that point. You can see this with for example the iPhone 6 and Galaxy S 6. They are really thin but don't feel that good in the hand compared to some thicker phones with curved backs.

Point 2) Performance and reliability.

There are high performance SD cards on the market. You can't seriously suggest that "some people end up buying cheap knockoffs that don't perform well" is a good argument for just flat out removing it altogether. A lot of people buy cheap USB memory stick as well. Should Microsoft therefore remove all support for USB memory sticks in Windows? It would certainly stop people from getting low performance from their USB memory sticks. This logic is mind blowingly bad.

A lot of what he says seems to be based on a misconception that putting a microSD into your phone makes the eMMC slower, which it doesn't. There is no performance compromise in the same way putting a HDD into your desktop alongside an SSD doesn't make your SSD any slower. I have no idea what this guy has been smoking.

You can look up my other posts in the thread if you want. I had quite a lot to say about storage in phones.

I have no intention of turning this into a lengthy argument over what is a highly debatable topic. Just brought it up as I do agree with his claim of performance degrading. I have my opinion and you have yours.

meh, to be honest, if u manage to break the micro usb connector, your first problem is to handle your phone better. And have we gotten to the point where we can't just try both ways on a connector?

Not to mention, (from my experience with the dummy pcb Type C board) it takes way too much force to plug in and unplug. While phones will have designed to support this strain, I still don't feel comfortable putting that much force on my phone.

200 dollars is nothing if you really need that storage. What would you ever need bigger than 128gb for, the phone probably doesn't even have enough battery to playback all that content.
