Recently got all those and a few other accessories from Newegg for a fast PC !

 

 

I have been following the guide to the T and my results so far seem to be good for my chip. I am still dialing in the stable 4.4GHz clock ( still doing step 1), however I have been lowering the voltages and increasing Intel XTU testing time to ensure I'm getting stability.

 

 

 

Last night I ran this,

 

 

Intel Core i5 4670K

4.4GHz    at    1.190V    for a 14 hour test. Passed.

 

 

 

Under those settings, my core temps at idle are about 38 -39C.  Used RealTemp 3.70 and IETU.

 

 

 

During Intel XTU test they rise to 61C avg with a peak of 67C

 

 

Once I find my core temps steady for an hour or so and find my averages (it's very jumpy!) I open the front of the case to let it cool down 2-5C more for the rest of night while testing.  

 

So far I am happy since each night it passed the test.    1.2500,    1.2300,   1.2000,  1.1900

I started at 8 hrs and this last one at 14hrs.

 

After the test is completed my temps drop at idle near 35-38C

 

 

So getting this OC right including the ring bus, etc, will take longer than anticipated since I only stress test before I go to bed.

 

 

I am wondering what is your opinion regarding those results.

I am not very optimistic about my water cooler since it gave me trouble installing but it seems to have some headroom. And despite it being noisy it's keeping temperatures relatively safe.

 

I also don't want to go on a crazy overclock, but would you recommend abandoning the 4.4GHz and go for dialing in a good 4.6 or 4.7GHz?

 

It takes a long time to get this right so I'm wondering if it's a good idea.

 

 

Can you recommend other settings?

 

Any feedback or input will be appreciated

BTW:

I use my computer for daily use, some work, and some moderate gaming.

Overclocking is just for kicks and extra performance.

 

first off I would like to thank you for a few things.

 

thank you for following the guide, being patient and doing things with proper validation!

thank you for such an accurate and concise description of your progress and current results!

 

your temps are good, you still have thermal headroom to increase the voltage and shot for a higher overclock.. you will get to a point were you see the performance \ watt ratio drop. for me this was at 4.7GHz. it took a significant voltage increase to go from 4.6 to 4.7GHz (1.35V - 1.41V)

 

4.6GHz seems to be the sweetspot for most Haswell chips

 

my best advice is find your best frequency that keeps your cpu in the 80c-85c range

 

you seem to have a very good performing cpu in the top 20%. (requires less than typical volts for 4.4GHz)

 

I personally overclock the snot out of every cpu i touch, so if your asking me if you should push further? , my answer is yes.

 

how much further? as far as you can staying at or below 85c!

 

just make sure you validate your results for 24 hours before you consider anything stable. for a daily driver pc i would recommend a peak temp of 85c

I know the guides state 8 hours of stress testing, but that is a bare minimum requirement, for my personal overclocks I require 24 hours of stress testing, I think 24 hours is important if your using your PC for work, the last thing you want is a crash in the middle of an unsaved project.

I am pretty much finished with the 4.4GHz overclock. Here's a snapshot of the last test with memory on XMP profile.

 

 

As you can see the final Vcore was even lower at 1.175V.

 

I could not keep CPU cache 1:1

I probably will not be doing a higher OC because I really want to keep the rig silent and just installed a voltage regulator for that noisy radiator fan. 

 

Lowering the RPMs on the radiator fan increased my temperatures by +2C in most aspects. 

Originally wanted a silent build but this will have to do for now.

Well I think you made out fantastic! I do believe your stock voltage is 1.150V ( correct me if Im wrong)

 

you gained 600MHz with only a .025 voltage increase!

 

good job on finding the lowest voltage possible, great work. hope you enjoy your silent rig! your temps are fantastic btw.

 

and having to drop the ring bus 100mhz is a normal maximum ring bus ratio ,  I have found, through my personal overclockcks and testing

Also don't try anything above the 4,3-4,4GHz if you dont know what you are doing or you risk frying your chip for a very small advantage in speed with that voltage of 1,3v+. Just saying as a reminder :D

Hello there, this is my first post, anyways, I managed to O.C my 4770k up to 4.7Ghz @1.372(1.368) V and my ring(cache) speed at 4.4ghz ( all settings are auto for cache and other mobo components voltages). My CPU's max temp is somewhere below 80 and around 30-33 idle or watching videos. I dont know whether I have a good chip or not, and also I would like you to help me reducing core voltages by tweaking motherboard's settings. Im currently clocking my G.skill rams @2400Mhz, I would also to note Im usinga H110 as a CPU cooler. I tried to modify vCore mode to adaptive mode; but my Computer keeps giving BSOD after hours of use, I even pushed the vCore voltage up to 1.42v on adaptive mode, sadly it stills giving BSOD. 
I have no idea how to achieve max cpu frequency with a minimum power usage.

Have you followed the guide step by step?

 

updated your bios?

 

we eliminate ram and cpu ring bus as being unstable variables with regards to finding cpu stability.

 

you have to show me you have read the guide and watched the videos. ( set your ram for 1333MHz and ring bus to default 3900MHz) post a screenshot with the ietu, read this thread it will give you an idea of the type of screenshot to post. 4.7 is achievable with your temps, but your going to have to follow the guide to find stability.

Ive been through all these processes, but somehow, even If i lower ram and ring frequencies, my cpu wont be stable at any lower value than 1.37v, my mobo is asus hero, updated to the latest bios.

well you have to find cpu stability first. i need 1.41V to hit 4.7GHz, I have also seen someone needing 1.43V and to achieve 4.7.

 

follow the guide. drop your ram. drop your cpu ring bus. find the best cpu voltage to start with

 

now you mentioned your had your ring bus at 4400MHz, what was your PIV and ring bus voltage set for?

VCCIN (CPU voltage Input) is at 1.75 I tried to rise it up to 2, but sadly nothing had happened. I already droped my ram freq and ring freq, nothing had happened as if my cpu is self aware and refuse to work any where lower than 1.37.

like i said its normal if you need more than 1.4V to stabilize 4.7 ghz

 

if you have really followed the guide step by step and have watched the videos,read all the material twice and your sure you have done things properly , you must keep in mind your cpu may not be able to run at 4.7ghz and you may have to settle for 4.6ghz or lower

 

follow the guide step by step

 

i can tell from the information you have given me you havent read the material enough and you need to do things in the proper order.

 

for the second time. what was your cpu ring voltage with the ring bus set for 4400MHz?

I left everything else on auto. I dont think cpu ring voltage has anything to do with this, I lowered its freq to 3.9 ghz, nothing had happened.

4.0ghz is a small overclock and you may be able achieve this at stock voltage

 

start with a  cpu vcore voltage of 1.150V (stock volts) for 4.0ghz. work your way up if you need to.

I trying my best but i am just to noob... My problem is that sistem crash if i go up with multipl. or even if i touch the frequency from auto. My Memory is 2400mhz kingston hyperx beast, and run on 1333Mhz, MY Mb is G1 Sniper M5, My cpu cooler is Zalman Reserator Max 3...

read all the information

 

start from scratch and follow the guide step-by-step ok.

 

first start by making sure you are on the latest official bios.

Guys who did a bit of BCLK overclocking, I would like to ask, what's is the maximum stable BCLK you guys can achieve?

In my bios only Changeable voltage for cpu are 

Cpu Vring external override  curently 1,800v

Cpu Vcore 1.25v

Cpu Ring voltage  1.050

heres what a got so far from your results

 

cpu multi - 45x

cpu vcore- 1.395V

 

ring ratio- 45x

ring voltage - .800 V  ( is that correct?)

 

PIV- unknown (1.8V?)

 

ram frequency - 1866MHz @ 1.71V

 

here are my questions.

 

what is your ring voltage set at?

 

what is your PIV set at?

 

have you tried to get 2400MHz on the mem chips at 1.71V?

 

are you on the latest  official bios?

VCCIN 1.79000 (I see it in gigabyte tweaklauncher)

No i didn't go with dram over 1700V that is highest i went and it was stable on 1866
