Can i use this bored with G3258? or what budget bored do you recommend.

Hello, i am looking to upgrade my pc to a pentium G3258 and because of that i need a new a motherboard. I am hoping to overclock the pentium and then upgrade to a i5/i7 when i got the money. i was wondering if this was a suitable motherboard.

It will work with the CPU, I'm not sure about overclocking on it though...

That board will do very well though it'll probably need a bios update before using it with the g3258. Not sure if OCUK do that, but if they don't you can always ask your local PC shop.

no, H97 doesn't allow for overclocking, well, proper overclocking anyway, you need a Z series board for that.

 

It will work none-the-less

Bear in mind this board will need the newer BIOS versions in order to support that CPU, as well as to enable overclocking support. 

 

Really, for a G3258 you'd want a Z87/Z97 board as they're designed for overclocking and will yield better results than H or B series boards. 

 

What's your budget for the board?

You can overclock via multiplier on H87 and H97 (as well as some other chipsets) when using Haswell-R CPUs. Not as good as Z series, but still possible. No messing around with BLCK

My Budget is about £50/100, as i am a student and looking for a cheap upgrade!

dosnt seem to have many feature (sli, crossfire ect) and you can't overclock on that either seeing that it is a h97, i ma pretty sure that b85

Yes, you can overclock on it. 

 

 

Ah, after a quick bit of searching it turns out the G3258 is a special case, It can be overclocked (with ratios) on some H series boards, where a K processor can't.

It's not just for the Pentium, it's for pretty much all Haswell-R (that can be overclocked, so 4460 is still locked). Pretty much every motherboard manufacturer has enabled it.

Yes, that is better for overclocking. However, it will still require a BIOS update (if it doesn't have it installed yet) in order to work with the CPU.

It's been almost a year since the release of the haswell refresh, in that time literaly every board that has a incompatible bios had been sold, so that's not a factor when buying new motherboards now.

It's been almost a year since the release of the haswell refresh, in that time literaly every board that has a incompatible bios had been sold, so that's not a factor when buying new motherboards now.

The board is B Grade, so there's a chance it is an older board that got returned, or has been used in a test bench. There's no telling if the board is new or not.
