difference between ivy bridge and sandy bridge on z77 motherboard (both socket 1155)

Go to solution Solved by mvitkun,

The difference is often over exaggerated.

there will be 5-10% better performance occasionally.

Pcie 3.0,though you could easily run even a HD 7990/GTX 690 dual gpu on pcie 2.0 with no difference in performance.

Like the title says, whats the difference between ivy bridge and sandy bridge on z77 motherboard (both socket 1155 of course)? and also is it worth upgrading from a 2700k to a 3770k?

It's not worth upgrading. The 2700k is a solid cpu.

Upgrading from a 2700k is a waste of money. If you want to spend money buy an SSD or a shiny new graphics card.

I watched a LOT of videos, and the biggest difference is that I can think of is PCI-E 3.0 support in the Ivy Bridge. Which means potential for higher bandwidth in expansion cards.

i have a 2500k and I cant use one of my pci e slot on my z77 board because I need an ivy bridge to use it.

Really just PCIe 3.0 that is missing.

you can use the pcie slot,it just won't run in PCIE 3.0,it'll go into legacy mode and run at PCIE 2.0.

If the first PCIE slot doesn't work it's not because of the Sandybridge processor,it's because of either a setting in the bios or an issue with the motherboard itself.

the last slot on your mobo is PCIE 2.0.

Meaning there's even less reason for you to try blaming a gen 2 processor for a non working pcie slot.

again it's an issue with either certain options in the bios or the motherboard itself.
