Google Street View Car misses stop sign and crashes another one

dDaunloz

Google Street View car just started mapping my city Montevideo, Uruguay (I thought they would never come here)

This morning one of them missed a STOP (PARE) sign and hit another car. Fortunate there were nobody hurt

You can see a near by surveillance camera video on twitter:

Self driving car crashes: 1.

Texting teens and drunk drivers: Millions.

---

Edit: Clarifications: The car in question is a car driven by a human which maps the roads and takes pictures of its surroundings.  This provides data for a lovely application of Google Maps that allows you to walk around a city virtually when you zoom-in far enough.

This original comment was to compare and contrast safety of self-driving cars vs. human driven cars.  Though, I can now see via many quotes/replies that this is confusing because the Google self-driving car is not equal to the Google Street View car.  Also, there have been many more crashes with self-driving cars (not just 1), and texting teens + drunk drivers' crashes is not equal to "millions", which was a purposely exaggerated number and made-up.

The hilarious contrast is that the Google self-driving car appears to be safer than a Google human-driven car; the human is lumped into the same group as texting-teens and drunk drivers.

So, what's the score now. 12 accidents in millions of miles, 11 of which was caused by the other driver, and now only 1 caused by the driverless car? Still a damn good trackrecord.

Worst position of a Stop sign ever. And there should be at least a 10 meter no parking zone in front of it.

It seemed to hit it at quite a speed considering how slow and long the google car was in the intersection.  Not saying the google isn't at fault, just saying the other car had time to drop a lot more speed assuming they weren't already going much faster than that in the first place.

Wow. I bet Google is going to try and cover this up.

Yes, Queue the conspiracy theories over a driver that didnt pay attention to a stop sign.

edit: that street looks like it should be a 4 corner, no?

PS: The google car driver didnt do a complete stop but that other guy didnt even slow down, come on that's grasping for straws.
