Why no signature pictures?

Plastictree

I can call myself a forum signature artist. Over the years, I've made over 100 forum signatures for other people. They are so much fun to make, and it's like clothes for your posts. In a 100 pixel high picture you can show your interests and what type of person you are, it can define you in such a small space. Here's my gallery of stuff I've made, just ignore the personal stuff: http://s1194.photobucket.com/user/plastictree9/library/?sort=3&page=4

Now I've only been through a few forums, first couple gaming communities, ECF, overclock, tek syndicate, and now linus tech. Less than half of them didn't allow signatures, and they never give reasons why.

So why can't we use them? How many of you would like them? How many of you want me to make you one?

I just wanna use this one

Isn't that thing great? You know how many hours it took me to make this thing? Like.. 2 hours... lmao. Thats not the point. Anyway, why can't we use them and how many of you want them?

The clutter up the forum and make pages take longer to load. originally we weren't even going to have text signatures.

Too much bandwidth overall and it takes away from the fluidity. This was a major problem with the EA forums, especially the latter, back in '08.

It can get obnoxious and ruin the clean look of the site, even with a conservative pixel height limit.

Some forums are suited to signature free-for-alls.  This one definitely isn't.

Please no signature pictures. There would be endless scrolling which would get very annoying.

Clutter, and as is you are not supposed to have 3+ lines, if they allow images people will just have massive pictures.

Those are off to the side, and can only be a certain dimension, so it isn't all that bad, but having random images pop up while you're scrolling through a thread can just be plain annoying for quite a few reasons.

I think there should be images.

We can have the images hosted offsite (imgur, postimage etc.)

And have members opt out of image signatures. (Revoke the access to view signatures).

Yeah! Innovation! Make it a setting that is default at turned off for viewing picture signatures. And only allow off site hosting

I agree it would be nice to have images on your signature. But I rather have a clean looking forum than having a forum just cluttered with images as well as everyone's current signature. It would take longer to load pages and you would have to scroll down longer to read threads.

People usually abuse them, the amount of times i saw penises on someones sig because he was trolling is to damn high, plus it ruins the look of the website, you can do the same thing with text.

Gets too messy and they are really annoying. I would rather not have them.

No offense, but they are kinda stupid IMO, don't really serve a purpose of any sort.

It's even more extensive when the forum derps and makes it 5 times the size. :p

I don't like them, but ultimately I wouldn't care, as I would just block those signatures ;-) bandwidth on the server side of things would be ok if it was all hosted off site. It should be opt in to view though...
