STRMfrmXMN's PSU Whitelist (No longer updated)

Anyone have experience with the Thermaltake Smart RGB 600W 2.3 PSU?

The regular Smart isn't great so I'd assume it's just that with an RGB fan, but I don't know for certain. For now I would suggest not buying it.

Are you guys at Corsair going to make an RGB PSU eventually? One that is actually good?

It's Corsair, I'd hope so! JG can probably answer that though.

That way, people could sync the lights on their Void Pro headset, MM800 mouse mat, M65 Pro FPS mouse, Scimitar Pro MMORPG mouse, K95 RGB Platinum keyboard, Vengeance RGB RAM sticks, HD120/HD140 fans, H115i AiO, 570X RGB case, with additional RGB strips, to the RGB lights on their PSU!

Exaggerating a bit here, but it could look nice. And using a single ecosystem to sync all of it would be nice.

Except for motherboards, you can basically have a fully Corsair system and nearly everything could be RGB!

Problem with motherboard RGB is there is no standard protocol from one board to the next.  You could make CUE work with Asus boards, but then they wouldn't work with MSI.  Make it work with MSI and it won't work with Gigabyte....

But PSU RGB from Corsair, that'll happen right?

I have no reason to buy it because I like PSU shrouds but it's something Thermaltake seemed daring enough to try and it appears to be successful enough that they keep producing new units with RGB fans.

What about AcBel PSUs? I don't see them on this list, afaik they're an OEM for several PC manufacturers and entered the retail market several years ago. I've been using an R9 for years without problem but are they reliable in the long run?

They are as good as other OEM manufacturers like FSP, Hipro and co. But it always depends on what the one selling the PSU wants and is willing to pay.

Noted with thanks. I bought an R9 900w retail (I’m in Asia, and they were trying to break into retail in the Asian market several years ago). But I agree, few shops carry their PSUs, and they’re all kinda for the mainstream and really lacking in features, the R9 even lacking modular cabling.
