is it possible running GTX 980ti at 1400mhz overclock with stock air coolers?

if i buy a GTX 980ti whats the highest overclock can i get? is it possible to get 1400mhz or even 1500mhz? with only stock air coolers that the GPU brands comes with like G1, Strix, EVGA, AMP that comes with?

 

and if not then whats the highest can i get it at?

I think you should stick to baseclock on the reference cooler as it already gets almost too hot.
While I'm still waiting for Benchmarks, the 980 Ti STRIX DCUIII seems to be the prime choice for 980 Tis with it's factory overclock of over 1300 Mhz.

A lot of the reviews on custom cooled 980 ti cards are getting 1500 mhz OC.  pretty impressive!

They also boost to 1500, but the AMP! ext outperforms it and is cheaper... so I cant really recommend the DCUIII.

Thanks for finding that review!  Looks like the Amp! Extreme wins out in pretty much everything.

I managed to get 1520MHz with 1.230 volt.

It was around 72C, fans running at full speed.

 

My card gets 1340MHz max boost speed by default, and stays there without throttling, so I think 1400MHz should be quite possible on most cards.

Not all cards will be able to hit 1500 due to silicon lottery so lower your expectations (see 980Ti Owners club at overclock.net) ; however, in general the 980 Ti's can easily hit mid to high 1400's if you spend the time to overclock it correctly.  My cards hit a stable 1501 MHz but not without flashing the bios and upping the voltage to 1.255 with a 121% Power Gain.  With this overclock, I am able to keep an average of 78c with fans set to 70% using the EVGA ACX 2.0+ coolers.  There are better cooling and silent options out there so do your research.

you can indeed i have a reference card and its overclocked to 1250mhz and turbos to 1500mhz.

 

i can get a stable 1400mhz core speed easily, but i have to have a very aggressive fan curve to keep it cool enough.

I reached 1484MHz on stock air cooling with +300 to memory. Its under water now but I haven't tested it further yet.

1400-1500+ is definitely achievable on air but will be noisy due to fan speeds.
