Two GTX 970's or a single 980Ti?

Tech_Dreamer

i 've heard that dual GPU config in SLI or crossfire can be a draw back when compared to Single GPU horsepower, But if this configuration was considered (with an i5 & 8 gig ram) Which one do you think would do good in Long term, Future gameplays(sli supported)

Any help & reccomendations or even refferal to benchmarks(read a few but still) is appreciated,

For me, I'd go with GTX 980Ti.

In the future, you can SLI it :3 (if you want)

970 SLI seems to perform a bit better for a bit more (usually).

Both cards support dx12, while 2-way SLI is not that problematic 3-4 way SLI yield minimum to no performance improvements.

Dual 970's are more powerful than a single 980ti but the latter is a more 'elegant solution' and you can always SLI 980ti's in the future if you find it necessary!

The answer is always the same: Get the more powerful single card.

970 SLI is better performance wise, but I always prefer a single powerful GPU over 2 lesser ones.

980ti is better. The performance is nearly identical and you get to avoid SLI issues plus you get 6GB of VRAM.

Not really. if you are using folding@home or bitcoin mining, dual 970's are gonna yield more

in dx12 if im right memory stacks so that's 7 GB of fast ram and 1GB of slow ram on the 970's

Is it confirmed, that the VRAM stacks? not that I am concerned, I switched from 970SLI to a 980Ti

I don't think it does stack, that wasn't actually true about DX12

980 Ti has more VRAM and can be overclocked to match performance of 970 SLI

Yet to see a single 980ti match performance of dual 970's when overclocked. Right now the gap is larger than you would think. Oc for oc the 970's still more powerful by around 10% on 3dmark.

but the 980 Ti will last longer cos of the whole VRAM issue with the 970s

Good idea, only need to wait until March 2016 (GTC)

yeah i've made  a thread on it before this one actually, i'm actually still confused , if that pumps out a lot more performance than this years maxwell, i'll seriously be dissapointed, but still haven't decided to buy which one or wait for a later one..

If you're not having issues with your GPU setup for the games you're playing, then you can afford to wait.

We all understand that itch to upgrade because "reasons".

nope, this a solid upgrade for me, like literally from beneath the ground rig to a high end build, not just the "upgrade noao" bug bite..

I would usually prefer a single card since SLI configs usually have some driver issues in certain games (eg Advanced Warfare), and it also draws a bit more power. For 4k the extra VRAM of the 980Ti would be great since you only have a single 4GB VRAM available in SLI  :)

SLI is still a great option if you only have enough for a single 970 and want to get another 970 later on.

*noobs around*

what are you guys even talking about? VRAM doesnt matter at all by the end of the MONTH. Neither the size nor the Speed.
