Full Lineup of Colors for Upcoming iPod Refresh Includes New Blue, Gold, and Pink Options Leaked via iTunes 12.2

Apple has not updated its iPod lineup in several years, only bringing new colors to the line up. But with the recent release of iTunes 12.2, some images were found that indicating Apple is preparing to update the iPod line.

 

Reported by Macrumors.com, one of their users found some images of the iPod series that hasn't been released by Apple shown on iTunes 12.2, when users were setting up or restoring an iPod in iTunes. Initially an image of a darker/deep blue for the iPod touch, a new gold or beige color for the iPod nano, and a brighter pink color for the iPod shuffle was found. That with some digging in iTunes 12.2 additional iPod images were found, indicating new color options of the iPods.

 

In total 6 color options of the iPods were found, which are silver, space gray, red, bright pink, deep blue, and light gold, as shown below. Pink, blue, and gold are new color options that are currently not yet available. Some even say the space grey is darker than the existing one, but it is hard to determine from the image.

Besides new color options, it seems there will be at least some minor external changes to the iPod Touch. In the image of a blue iPod Touch with a gold iPod nano, and a pink iPod Shuffle, we can see the back of the iPod Touch, and silver button on the lower left of the rear of the iPod Touch is missing, thus some speculate maybe the new iPod Touch will no longer have wrist loop.

A comparison with the leaked new iPod Touch (above) and the current gen iPod Touch (below), which you can see the silver button for the wrist loop is missing on the new iPod Touch.

Also since on these images the iPod Touch the Calendar icon were showing a date of Tuesday the 14th, some speculate maybe these new iPods will be announced on 14 July, which is 2 weeks from now. But since Apple usually announced new iPods in their music event in Sept, I have doubts with this speculation.

*update: as indicated by forum user @o0Martin, it seems the iPod Touch doesn't have Touch ID as well. Thx for indicating that....

So they made more colors and downgraded the wrist loop?

at this stage we don't know if there are any internal changes in the new iPod Touch...

They really need to upgrade the chip in the iPod Touch. It still has a freaking A5 chip, it doesn't really need the upcoming A9 but the A7 or A8 are still a good upgrade

It doesn't even look like the iPod touch has touch ID?? 

 

Or even a bigger screen judging by the app layout, can't believe they'll still push iPod nano's either thought they would be done with those 

 

Somehow I doubt these rumours, if they are true I don't see it as being a big thing with its own dedicated press event, from the pictures it seems the only upgrades could be things like better cam/processor/battery ect which after all these years I'm expecting apple to do a little more

Why do they have to use the worst colors! Like come one! The iphone 5c was only good in blue and white and the rest were just bad. Pick a color and make sure it looks good not dulled pink poop vomit green

Or even a bigger screen judging by the app layout, can't believe they'll still push iPod nano's either thought they would be done with those 

 

Somehow I doubt these rumours, if they are true I don't see it as being a big thing with its own dedicated press event, from the pictures it seems the only upgrades could be things like better cam/processor/battery ect which after all these years I'm expecting apple to do a little more

What is even the point of an iPod any more? Now they've gimped the internal storage in favour of promoting internet streaming services (because we always have flawless wifi wherever we go, right?) unless this has 128GB like the iPod Classic I don't have a purpose for one.

Why do they have to use the worst colors! Like come one! The iphone 5c was only good in blue and white and the rest were just bad. Pick a color and make sure it looks good not dulled pink poop vomit green

 

The green and pink in the post are from the old gen, you can tell by the little metal bit at the bottom (it is stated in the op) it seems they got rid of those colours if the top pics are the full line up aha, which is good I do agree the green and pink look pretty bad >.<

What is even the point of an iPod any more? Now they've gimped the internal storage in favour of promoting internet streaming services (because we always have flawless wifi wherever we go, right?) unless this has 128GB like the iPod Classic I don't have a purpose for one.

Smartdevice for kids who don't have a phone yet.

 

Apple is working on capacity through software taking up less space. Apps were not space efficient before iOS 9, if you had an iPhone 6 and you downloaded an app, it would include the 32bit & 64bit code and code that are for all supported device models (4S and up). With iOS 9 it will only download the code that applies to the device it is being installed on

an A7 would be really nice for one of these devices because it matches my ipad mini nicely... Still completely annoyed that the Apple smartwatch is iphone only. I honestly would have had so much more use for it with my tablet then anything else. I guess the ipod will do nicely for my keeping my productivity notifactions in line.

Yup I see it now. The Red and Black are really nice. I wish they had that for the 5C.

I can't remember much change in pricing, only maybe an increase in storage but with the same price at one point? Been too long to remember aha, probably will be the same price or less :)

 

And yeah maybe, they could just use the processor from the iPhone 5S or something and add all the camera options to it like slow motion and pano ect that have come out on iPhones in the last few gens, if they release it with the iPhone 6S I'm sure people would still flock and buy that like always aha 

 

Tbh I'd rather see them release an iPhone 6C along with the 6S though, I liked the 6C it was a good concept, rebrand old hardware with some new features for a lower price then the iPhone 6S and a lot of people will buy it, a lot of my mates own 5C's and are looking for upgrades soon, a 6C with touch ID bigger screen and same/lower price would do well imo

I have more than 64GB of just music on my PC. Any iPod or equivalent I own needs to have more capacity than this as internal storage, OR support big mico SD cards. It's not enough to be able to use an internet streaming service because if I'm driving to work across country roads or listening on a plane guess what I'm not likely to have good access to!

 

iPods the size that they are limited to since the death of the Classic are useless to me.

 

Oh and BTW Apple, £700 for a phone with 128GB internal storage isn't much of a replacement.

I've never had a device with as insane battery life as that. I would fly from Australia to europe, constantly listening to it, stay there for a month or so, come back to Australia and it would still have about 40% life left. Amazing.
