Is there anyway to fix HDMI handshake errors?

I would like to connect my new rig, using a DVI to HDMI adapter, to my SONY KDL32EX401 TV using a HDMI lead however when I do the screen will randomly invert its colours or create a layer of pink/green during use.

I have determined that the problem is with my graphics card (Sapphire HD 4870 1Gb QP) and the TV.

Does anyone have a suggestion on how I can fix it?

Why not just use an HDMI cable, does your gpu not have an hdmi port?

My HD 4870 only has 2 DVI ports thus the need for an adaptor. :(
