Microsoft to buy AMD?! [updated]

zMeul

That seems like a dangerous deal.

I already see a world where windows runs bad on Nvidia

And all the licencing deals would go to shit, Intel needs the x86_64 license...

How on earth would windows run bad on nvidia

How is that even

For the last time: NO ONE IS BUYING AMD UNTIL x86 BECOMES IRRELEVANT

If they get bought they lost rights to make x86 chips, so unless Microsoft feels like making MIPS, ARM etc chips and AMD is willing to give up their share in the CPU market, then no, this isn't going to happen.

But wouldn't intel lose the right to make x86_64 chips then as well? A new agreement would have to be made anyway.

OT:

Companies aren't made up of 1 part. They might be selling a smaller division to MS.

Gee, I wonder why Tesla started with the expensive sports car instead of the cheap mass market electric car?

Historically, it's following the MO almost precisely, hemorrhaging money till it hits its critical mass.
