Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Matchmaking Improved With Virtual Community Hang-Out

Multiplayer matchmaking is a one of gaming’s critical tasks, something that can make or break the success of a franchise that’s traditionally so multiplayer focused. Treyarch wants to improve upon the sometimes frustrating matchmaking and party interaction of its predecessors.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 introduces a virtual community space, the Safe House, a place to customize gear, spend XP and participate in multiple game modes far easier than before.

When speaking to Edge magazine the head of Treyarch, Mark Lamia, pointed out that when they collected data from Black Ops 2, they saw that the matchmaking scheme already implemented was severely lacking. Playing with friends was difficult and it wasn’t easy sticking with the same group of people if you wanted to switch game modes quickly. So they’ve developed the Safe House, a community hub that should be able to facilitate a better way to play online.

“You’re going to know where friends are and what they’re playing. When we looked at data from Black Ops 2, we discovered that people were playing multiple game modes in a single session, and we realised we had to make that easier, especially now we have a co-op experience.”

Essentially, it sounds like it’ll be an in-game representation of a server browser combined with other functionality. Instead of using your mouse cursor to refresh the list of servers and see whose online, you can literally see where all of your friends characters are and join them from inside the game. Quite honestly Black Ops 3 is almost taking on an MMORPG-like approach to the social atmosphere being in-game and in-character.

It certainly is a step in the right direction to fix one of the most glaring issues that has faced the Call of Duty franchise lately. It’s had a similar interface and mostly identical inner-workings since Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Treyarch wants to do a lot of new things with Black Ops 3, breaking the previous traditions that have only proven detrimental to the series. They’re taking the legacy seriously while also using Black Ops 3 as an opportunity to innovate in ways that it hasn’t in a long time.

I'm deciding if i should put around 20+ more hours into CS:GO to improve myself or just go back to my roots and rage every time i die.

Nvidia is to Dr Dre Beets as AMD is to KFC.

One makes you broke, the other you can get more of and have a midnight snack from the fridge when hungry again. Once you go Nvidia, you go broked, turn into an Elitist, or get the incorrect amount of VRAM.

Dedicated servers would work much better. 

Why can't they learn from Battlefield. I mean seriously what if I want to play a specific freaking map!?

Huh that's odd. I honestly though the Black Ops 2 match making was near perfect, at least for something not using dedicated servers

Then you can pay for the DLC to gain access to that map and then play it when they choose to have it available, usually during some kind of "special" weekend. 

 

Nuketown 24/7 was fun but goddamn let me play it whenever I want.

... Life is a game and the checkpoints are your birthday , you will face challenges where you may not get rewarded afterwords but those are the challenges that help you improve yourself . Always live for tomorrow because you may never know when your game will be over ... I'm totally not going insane in anyway , shape or form ... I just have broken English and an open mind ...

Glad to hear, IMHO every other COD than BO2 has been lackluster, treyarch did a good job on BO2 and I'm hoping BO3 will be just as good.

Being the local CoDfag, I think that's cool.

 

Looking forward to BO3. Always liked Treyarch's games the most.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

I think people are confusing dedicated servers with a server list that BF4 uses. Dedicated just means that it won't be P2P hosting.

True, but like there always has been for Ranked or League Play there are dedicated servers. 

I have never encountered a host migration once in AW or Ghosts, only a few times in BO2, but quite a lot in MW3. 

Just like to point out that I have over 11 days in matches in AW, so it's not because of a lack of game-time that I haven't come across it. 

And in one Drift0r video he was using a really nice router, some NetDuma one, the software is the selling point, and he'd frequently connect to a dedicated server, so I think they're even in normal Pub matches.

The way you play a match for BF3/4 and Hardline is abominable, like seriously? Selecting a server in a fking browser is just so stupid. Why can't they learn from Call of Duty... Wait....

Just like in MW3 and such with the server list, people call them dedicated, when in fact you host the damn server, there's a tool in Steam to do so. 

Also, like I said before, they've always had dedicated servers for Ranked Play. 

 

To be honest the only CoDs I have trouble with connection wise are the ones including and before MW3, almost always a 2 bar, but even in AW I consistently get at least 3 bars, only time I get 1 or 2 is if I join other clan members that live in Asia (mostly just Japan and Korea), Europe or America.

Eh, each to their own I guess, I despise Battlelog, and I don't experience lag any other time then when I join clan members or friends that aren't in the Asia Pacific region.

I just don't care anymore, not matter how they improve unless the improvement is on the story/game itself. This series has turned to poop after Big Red One and Modern Warfare 2. It should just die already. :(
