Nvidia makes the ass-kicking cards, I got my hopes up with AMD R9 Fury X, but I guess HBM early adoption isn't the key to win rather wait for tech to mature  :D Hmmmmm Nvidia GP Core on HBM2  :o, now that's worth the wait  B). 

 

On another note still give my respect to AMD being that far behind and able to keep up with the "Green Team", plus total respect for adopting "Liquid-Cooled GPU's"  :D

Pricing it's about the same as a 980Ti stock, and about 600NOK (100USD) cheaper than the cheapest aftermarket cooled 980Ti. So i'm waiting to see how it clocks with voltage tampering.

Komplett: 6660 for Sapphire ver. 1-2000 more for 980Ti. They're all the same, so doesnt matter if you pick MSI, Asus, Sapphire or any other. No sub manufacturer are allowed to tinker with the Fury X at this point.

The jury is still out on the Fury X. Directx12 could put it over the top of the 980 ti, and when AMD does come out with a new architecture it usually seems to age better than Nvidia's architectures, which are more software/driver dependent and have less raw horsepower. This probably will be the case with the Fury cards as it SHOULD be more powerful on paper, so it has more potential gain when direct x12 comes out.

 

Also, the edge the 980 ti has at 1080p is totally irrelevant aside from bragging rights and talking points, because no one who buys either card is going to use it for 1080p(unless theyre an idiot).

 

Still, I admit AMD is running out of time and needed a big win with this card right out of the gate.

Liquid cooling isn't all that great.  Once the fluid stops flowing or is no longer present, your gpu is pretty much fucked.

 

Air cooling, even if the fan fails, the heat sink still acts as a good thermal conductor allowing you to still use the card with nothing gpu intensive.

That's why a factory made, warrantied liquid cooling solution is great. If something goes wrong its under warranty. That's not the case with a homemade set up.

 

I think its actually a big selling point for the Fury X. It keeps the card cooler than a non reference fan design and vents the heat out of your case. A reference design vents it out of your case too but doesn't keep the card cool and sounds like a friggin vacuum cleaner under load. I would happily take AMDs factory liquid design over the best air cooled designs.

This card was supposed to be priced at around 800 and compete with Titan X. But then 980ti showed up and they had to cut the price. Nvidia did pretty good here. Haha

So much for being called as Titan killer tho. "Hunting titans".

How about making their chips run not so hot in the first place.  Smaller dye, more per wafer, less heat, higher clock speeds, smaller cooling solution, higher profit, lower selling price... everybody is happy.

Sounds great, I agree. Problem is that its not quite so easy to achieve, as Nvidia has found out with the Titan X and 980 ti. 84-86C AVERAGE load temps? 105C vram temps?

 

The difference in power consumption between the Fury X and 980 ti is pretty small. The TDP for a 980 ti is what, 260W, and the fury X is 275-300 depending on which review. That's a negligible difference in terms of power bill and in terms of heat, the liquid cooling solves that.

 

Real power efficiency will come with 16nm and lower cards coming next year. Right now both AMD and Nvidia have created power hungry 28nm beasts.

The Fury X seems to be the same as Titan X, the card cant be changed, so its performance is more or less locked on the hardware side.

So guess its up to the Fury and Fury X2 to prove that AMD still got it.

 

As is it right now, so does they ether have to come down in price or do a very good job on the driver side, to make Fury X a better buy then 980 ti (which we still havent seen all the custom PCB models for yet).

At least in the UK, no, not really. From OCUK you can pre-order the Fury X for £650 which is pretty reasonable. Or for the same price, you can pre-order an EVGA 980Ti Hybrid that also has a CLC, but more VRAM, and everything can be overclocked.

 

Hell, you can pick up a bog standard reference 980Ti also from EVGA for £575.99 and get a free copy of Batman with it. I'm kinda failing to see where the Fury X comes in here, especially with UK pricing as it is now. And this is just from one retailer and excluding any kind of deals and offers

At least in the UK, no, not really. From OCUK you can pre-order the Fury X for £650 which is pretty reasonable. Or for the same price, you can pre-order an EVGA 980Ti Hybrid that also has a CLC, but more VRAM, and everything can be overclocked.

 

Hell, you can pick up a bog standard reference 980Ti also from EVGA for £575.99 and get a free copy of Batman with it. I'm kinda failing to see where the Fury X comes in here, especially with UK pricing as it is now. And this is just from one retailer and excluding any kind of deals and offers

Fury X is from £509.99 to £649.99, depending on model.

980 ti is from £559.99 (£509.99 with deals) to £749.99, depending on model.

 

So it seems Fury X is about £50 cheaper, on regular prices, for cheapest models.

The Fury Nano is the card im most interested in. 175W TDP for performance that will probably lie somewhere between a GTX 980 and 980 ti at lower resolutions and nearly equal to the 980 ti at 4k, only with HBM memory in a super small form factor.

 

This is a card that can help bring an AMD comeback. I could see it totally dominating the ITX market and even driving a big increase in ITX builds.

The 980ti is marginally slower than the Fury X

In a few cases? Sure. In most cases though, an overclocked 980 beats the fury x.

Fury X is from £509.99 to £649.99, depending on model.

980 ti is from £559.99 (£509.99 with deals) to £749.99, depending on model.

 

So it seems Fury X is about £50 cheaper, on regular prices, for cheapest models.

The only Fury X cards at the £510 mark are the pre-order edition cards, guessing they're letting early adopters of some manufacturers get them for cheaper.

The cheapest 980Ti you can currently get is a reference Asus card for £545.

 

The cheapest I can find a Fury X without that pre-order edition is £530 from Dabs. So for £15 more you get more VRAM, full overclocking, a free copy of Batman, and HDMI 2.0/DVI

 

I'd mention the pump whine, but AMD say that'll be fixed when they're properly released. If they price the Fury X at £500 RRP then it seems to make more sense because it's a decent bit cheaper than the equivalent card whilst only being a little slower overall

Counting deals, the 980Ti becomes an even better choice since you can grab a reference card for the same price as the pre-order edition Fury X cards, and right now you can get a non-reference Inno3D card for £510
