Will 120hz 1080p outlast 60hz 1440p?

silencerbob

So I will getting my new PC this week (4770k, 2x 780's).. And I'm wondering which option to go on a new monitor. No doubt I could get impressive fps for games, or impressive resolution.. Which which option will outlast the other?

I'm hearing that IPS panels look better, but u won't get more than 60hz there due to its design? On the other hand .. How much better does >60hz look on a non IPS panel.

Over the years to come will fps drop more or will dropping from 1440p to 1080p happen more ?

My heads all over the place now how this makes sense! Lol

Unless you are a Ultra hardcore gamer i would suggest going with an IPS 1440P screen

2 780s? why would you get 2 of these monsters and only use one monitor? honestly, if you'll only have one monitor, even a 1440p one will only need one 780.

My personal opinion is that 120hz is unnecessary. It's nice to have but everything looks unnatural so I'd recommend the 1440p screen.

You mean unnatural because of the color reproduction or because of the refresh rate?

Well, both. I've tested them in store, it's too smooth, but if you're into that and it looks better. Yeah, they're usually TN panels, which have poor color reproduction.

Go with the IPS 1440 monitor.  If you have to ask, you probably aren't competitive enough of a gamer for a 120/144Hz panel to make sense.  Those are really for those who need instantaneous response.  A nice IPS panel will look far better.

And with two 780s, you won't have to worry about framerate for a long, long, long time, even at 2560x1440. ;)

Why do you need a 4770k and 2 780's?

120/144hz 1080p will be fine with a 770 sli or 7970 crossfire,

For single 1440p, a single 780 would do.

IPS will look better. Only get the 120/144 hz display if you are a hardcore player and you play twitch games.

A 60Hz 1440p monitor will outlast a 120Hz 1080p one. Most games will allow resolutions of 1440p and the increased resolution and better features of an IPS panel look a lot better than the extra refresh rate on a non-IPS panel.

Depends.. If you play games like UT, Quake, Counter Strike - then definitely get the 120/140hz monitor. Otherwise 1440p is really nice, I hate seeing individual pixels on 1080p monitors all the time.
