Well here's my ghetto setup, note the gorilla glued on grill and switch for the fan.. (Old fan's PWM was gone so hard wired it to run at full or half speed until I could get a new one..) Also the case for the external hdd is gorilla glued back together.. The duke nukem 3d mouse pad that came with the game when it was released.. Along with the skateboard wheels for a laptop stand.. And yes that is pokemon yellow covering the socket on my motherboard..

Laptop is an ASUS ROG (LULz-X73SD) 8gb ram, 1gb nvidia 610m, i7 @ 3.1ghz, 80GB internal HDD (it has a dual hdd bay.. but only using one, and no thats not a typo.. i did mean to say 80GB) <---- it was a free laptop

My dad finally brought around that computer I was talking about in the last page... maybe it doesn't count as ghetto because it was intentional, my sister just figured out that I rebuilt that for our dad today.

Notice the slightly off beige CD-ROM drive on the top... it's because it is a modern DVD burner that I removed the cover on and spray painted to match the case better
 

I had to fix his corrupt win 7 profile today, so it was the first time I saw it in about a year and a half, I think I am going to order a front panel audio/usb/sdcard and paint that to match, then put it in place of either the Zip drive or floppy drive, just to make it a little more user friendly

 

The power and HD lights do work, tried to take a pic but it was hard to tell they are so small, I had cut off the original OEM harness and soldered a basic wire set in its place to make those and the front switch work. Dremeled out the back to fit the I/O shield for the motherboard. Also left the original stickers in the front and put the AMD whatever sticker in the back.

Couldn't fit my new sr-2 into the case. The new case costs 200GBP. Yeah, I will just mod my old one

Just some cheeky intel stock cooler for the 775, ripped it apart and stuck it in the "tube" of this case.

 

at the same time i added gtx 470 from pny  (from hd 4870)

Had to cut the plastic tube to fit it in with gpu, haven't tested the temperature difference with 470, but 4870 dropped from 70-80c to 60c on load. while the 470 has steady 80'ish on full load.

 

After this i'll be adding a fan or two

I was once running a laptop motherboard jerry rigged to a piece of cardboard using it's own weight to hold the wifi card in. and I ahd it hooked up to a monitor. The runner up is a laptop without a monitor I have hanging under a desk, hooked up to an external monitor with my old laptops charging port shoved in to power it. (I'll post pics later, but not now.)

I once strapped a fan to my fanless AGP graphics card to get an oveclock on it. It did, and gave me a 300MHz overclock on the processor and a 294Mhz overclock on the DDR1 memory to bring it match my system memory. 

 

Can I say that on GTA SA I broke all the way through from the low gfx barrier up to the ultra gfx setting barrier? Yes, I believe I can, I was very happy.

 

Turns out the memory was bottlenecking me, I found out when I realized the processor overclock was making my system unstable. so I kept the memory at 400MHz while I returned the processor to normal

I had a ibm thinkpad, accidentally stud on the screen when getting out of bed.

I snapped the top part off and removed the two wifi antennas 

Got an old crt monitor and taped the antennas to the side of it, was left with a laptop base with keyboard on the bottom with the dvd drive built in etc, and the crt and wifi together on top, desktop style.

I was only 14 back then and never new much about computers etc, but it worked flawlessly lol

Edit, added a gheto drawing to demonstrate what my beast looked like.

this is what my first computer looked like was a much older IBM though

- Antec p182 case, drive cages removed with a hammer, which consistently reduced the structural integrity of the thing, in other words, it litterally bends when you pick it up with side panels removed

- Broken side panels, duct taped to the rest

- H105 standing in place with hot glue cuz wassup

- Mosquito filters as air filters 

- Second hand watercooled 290 with no VRM radiators 

- Air Flow unknown

- Stock Antec fans running off molex

- SSD held on by one screw and 3M scratch 

- Hard drives held on by a screw each side

- Two soundcards (yes)

- RGB LED'S EVERYWHERE BECAUSE DO U EVN

Motherboard had 5 SATA ports and 1 eSATA port.  I needed 6 SATA ports.  Solution: eSATA to SATA cable fed from the eSATA port, back into the case, to the HDD.

I suddenly really want to put a stock intel heatsink on a GPU to make the cringe-y-est PC. Or put waterblocks in a loop and cool them with intel heatsinks without radiators. I really like intel heatsinks.

All I can really think of is ghetto making a 3.5mm to RCA jack for a music gig I did because they told me 'Hey we have one!'

Oh, and using duct tape in strips through a CPU cooler (which did not have holes so I hot glued the fan to the heatsink and used the fan holes) and through the motherboard to hold the cpu cooler down. Long story short the cpu is nice and chilly (granted its a shit cpu cooler) I use it for display on my wall in my studio
