RAMDisk those RAMs

 

64GB is way more than enough

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

I find full ram slots to be extremely nice looking on a rig.

I wish I could use that for my computations, 'cause it takes up to 100% ram, no matter how much of it u have.

But it does boost computation time.

All my monies will go to the first company to make a DDR4 motherboard with an integrated mechanism for maintaining voltage to RAM between boots and "short"(About 1-4 Hours) "total power loss"es.

Hell I have 32GB DDR4 and I dedicated half of it to PrimoCache

I actually have a bit of a strange setup I'm using Stablebit DrivePool for my storage/game drives and PrimoCache to basicly buffer that to a Samsung 850 Pro 128 and half my RAM.

It works quite well.

Can we create a system where you actually put the os image (as a partition for example) in the ram and boot up from it? So the system (64gb should be more than enough) would reside in the ram not on the system drive? Let alone games could be copied to ram(ridk)? I would expect lightning speed system speed afterwards compared to even ssd based system speed.

What I would consider doing with this (and even buy 128gb ram if...)

nope, ram is volatile storage.

If I remember correctly, that can be done, but the system has to be loaded to ram upon startup, and saved to HDD or SSD before shutdown. If you lose power, you lose EVERYTHING in RAM.

Ketchup is better than mustard.

GUI is better than Command Line Interface.

nope, ram is volatile storage.

If RAM being volatile was an issue we wouldn't use it in systems that run for days or months without shutdown. All you have to do is keep power supplied and you're good.

Do I assume correctly that CPU single thread performance is current PC bottleneck?

 

- RAM far from full & not utilizing full speed

- SSD as storage idling aswell

Well you didn't really put it to a test in programs. But I guess you already did that and found 72GB was max or something. It was on Edzel's machine

On a more serious note,

Linus, please don't do the " mash that like button if you want to see the next video about  _____ product" during your intros because it leaves a sour taste in all of your fans mouths before we even start watching the actual video. We know you want to tease the next video and all but don't tease it in a way that implies that you won't release the next video since we all know it's made, uploaded onto Vessel and is scheduled for release on the next day. If your fans enjoy the video, they will like it, and some fans will like it regardless if they enjoy the video just to support you and your team. So if you would please stop with the cheesy like baiting teases.

So when Asus lists that the max memory capacity of the X99 Deluxe is 64GB is that because they only validated it with hardware configurations up to 64GB? How would you know if a particular board would support this memory configuration short of just going out and buying the kit?

It will probably require a BIOS update regardless to support the addressing for this much ram.

As AnonGuy said, you'd have to have a BIOS update to address this much RAM since the board (along with the R5E) IIRC, can only support 64GB. Perhaps ASUS will create a publicly available BIOS to support 128GB just like they did with the R4E; I'm getting the itchy finger to buy 64GB before I leave in a few months... I really want to throw plastic at 128GB though... Maybe JJ will read this and help us out(?)
