AMD - A New Era In PC Gaming

Opcode

This new tech created by AMD has not only changed graphic cards in the desktop space. It will also have big changing implications in the console space. Console units with APU's and hbm means graphical fidelity will increase 2 fold, leaving the era of 1080p behind. Which is great for PC gaming. Imagine 1440p being resolution standard and no more down graded PC ports. Also, think if nintendo new console is based on this new tech.

Test ideas by experiment and observation; build on those ideas that pass the test, reject the ones that fail; follow the evidence wherever it leads and question everything.

Once DX12 starts getting used that all changes.

Nothing but hype. It might be 2 years before we realize those benefits across most games and this card will be old news by then. I need cards for todays games like GTA V, not for a pipe dream.

Why would you need more then 4gb for a while. GTA V at UHD is the only thing that takes more then that at 4K, everything else maxed out 4K with less then 4gb.

The frame rate control feature? It makes perfect sense, combined with Freesync. Instead of using vsync, or let the framerate flow above the max supported frame rate of the monitor, frame rate control, could just limit the frames made, to the vrr max of the monitor. Pretty sweet.

Added to main post. Why do such pictures always come from someone shooting it on a potato. It makes me always question the validness of them.  <_<

Phone cameras aren't always the best in those kind of lighting conditions.

So dual Fiji is definitely a thing, Lisa presented it during the PC Gaming Show. The very same card that's inside of their tiny gaming box.

It does make sense but I don't think AMD has this down . . . yet.

I dont believe what he says because of what he said. "AMD GPUs put out thousands of frames per sec but only spit out 60 so the focus is to produce only 60fps then go to sleep for a minute then start up and spit another 60".. come on. If AMDs cards where performing this well they wouldn't get the 'hate' they are receiving already. (for the record i am not one of those that hate, I actually support AMD just not using their stuff right now).

I don't think you really understand what this is about. My 290 easily puts out 1-2000 fps, in menus and loading screens. It's pointless, and puts a huge stress on the power circuitry. This is not about making a bunch of frames, then pause, then a bunch of frames. It's about makes a steady stream of fps needed for your monitor. If you have 144hz monitor, there really shouldn't be any reason to produce, say 250 fps, as a lot of them would be scrapped at various intervals. It's just a more clever way of utilizing your GPU for more steady FPS, and saving electricity and heat on your GPU, when playing low end games.

Afaik, it is also a technology, that will be used a lot in liquidVR, for things like oculus rift.

Isn't this already how it works with frame limiting?

Not sure. I believe this has a bit more to it. As in making sure, a frame takes less time to be made, so your input has less latency, as well as a steady input. But I don't know enough about it, in detail.
