The 290x is an awesome card, it just has a horrible reference cooler.

Not really, it sturgled against the 780 and consumed a little more power, and the 980 stomped on it, consuming almost of the power of the 290x. The only good card since the 7970 was the r9 295x2 and the 7990

The 290x does not struggle against the 780. lol. But yes, the 980 stomps on it. That much is true. ;)

So the only 2 cards since 7970 are those with double GPU chips? It's funny because you consider a 290X to be a bad card, but the 295X2 that has 2x290X chips is a good card. Interesting.

I can already see this thread turning into another "complain about AMD rebranding the 300 series waaaaah!" argument.

We all know what the 300 series will be. It's nothing new. ;)  can we let that alone for now and just discuss/focus on Fury, please? :P

they going back for Radeon name?

What u think "R" stands for ?!

Its always gonna be radeon until they come up with something better. Honestly, I like that word a lot. More than "GTX" thing. No idea what that stands for.

Back to topic:

This will be about the new memory and some APUs.

New stuff ? Sure !

Not sure what "new era of GAMING" is representing and how Lisa sees it but to me it sounds like "evolution" / something different, like VR.

The one thing i've allways learned from hyped products. When it comes down to it, it falls flat on it face and in the end so many people are disappointed.

Mantle is dead. We are approaching DX12 era in few months :P

Freesync will be mentioned I guess :)

yeah, that is because the 7990 > 690, and was cooler card. The r9 295x2 was better then the titan z, although the 290x < titan black. The r9 295x2 was a win for AMD as it was cool and had great performance. The r9 290x DID struggle against the 780, and was demolished by the 780ti, 970, 980, 980ti, titan x etch. ALL of these cards consume less power than the r9 290x

Titan Z was never supposed to be a gaming card.

Now let's see

780 vs 290X no struggling, 290X is beating it almost every time

970 vs 290X  demolished? Also beating it most of the time (yes I choose the Uber version since 970 is not reference). With new games that have not been benchmarked where the 970 beats 290X I'd say they're on pair.

980 vs 290X 980 has beaten it, in some games a lot at 1080p, the higher it went the better 290X fights back. Notice how it's sometimes few FPS

780Ti vs 290X read above with lower difference

So some of your statements are more than wrong. And how do you even compare 295X2 with 690? 690 is based on 2x680 which is worse than 2x780 which is worse than 2x290X.  Just to demonstrate what I mean

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

This.

But the 970 is quieter, cosume less power gives off less heat is cheaper (IN THE UK) and is a more refined card with much better driver support.

Drivers are equal, I'd say. 290x has been around longer, so drivers have been well optimized for it.

Those are great features of the 970, I agree with that. But those things are secondary to pure performance for some people. The main point I was replying to was your claim that the 970 "demolishes" the 290x, which it simply doesn't.

Yeah, but I dont like to look at performance alone. If AMD improved efficieny I would buy a gpu from them. But they are just throwing more cores and expecting you to just accept it with a stupidly high tdp. They are even liquid cooling there SINGLE gpu cards. Does that not tell you how bad it is?

The Fury card is what I'm most interested in seeing. I think the only drawback for me is 4GB HBM. If only they could've fit 8, or even 6GB would've made it much more enticing IMO.
