7970 Dual Monitor Furnace! HELP!

rahulr1

I recently set up two monitors. One 1080p monitor and another 1280x1024 monitor. Earlier my PowerColor 7970 ran at 300mhz core clock at idle. With two monitors, it is always 500mhz minimum. My old idle temperatures were a very acceptable 35C. Now when I boot up with two monitors it is 37C...BUT it steadily increases to 47C! Earlier with one monitor, running Far Cry 3 on ultra on my 1080p display was about 70C. Now even just with the other screen idling im hitting 81C! All this at stock speeds! HELP! Is this normal? If not what can I do? All help is VERY MUCH appreciated. Thanks.

This is normal, your asking the monitor to draw more power for the higher resolution, even during idle, gaming, and such, your temps and clock speeds will be higher due to the added resolution.

But are you sure about increasing from 71C to 81C when gaming? Most people say they are worried about anything over 80C.

@rahulr1

I have the same 2x 7970s(gagbyte ones), but i have 3 monitors. getting up to the high 70Cs does not happen that much, and i game at minimum 1920x1080.

BUT some Gpus heat up more than others, yours could be just a bit of a hotter one.

It should be fine, but if you are that worried about it you could go in to CCC and turn the fans up to max, if you have stock cards this is really loud, but with the after market PowerColor cooler it should not be to bad.

I have an aftermarket cooler on my 7970 but is isn't really THAT special. Also Even though I'm asking the question I just wanna say. NEVER manually control fan speeds.

By the way I've just hit 53C on idle. Is that normal with two monitors?
