What to upgrade first: Monitor or Graphics Card

alphafox

Hi guys,

I'm looking at upgrading my graphics (either adding another 580 or going to a 770) but I'm also looking at upgrading my monitor. Right now I've got a 2 23" monitors (one IPS one not, both 1920x1080). I'm looking at upgrading to a pair of 27" monitors, but if I do I won't be able to do the graphics card upgrade for a while. So what do you guys recommend graphics upgrade or Monitor upgrade first?

Core i5 4670k | Z87 Sabertooth | Corsair Dominator Platinum 8GB @  1866 MHz | EVGA GTX 580 Superclocked | Cooler Master HAF 932 | Corsair HX750 | Samsung 840 Pro 120 GB  | Western Digital  1 TB Black | Crucial M3 60GB | Corsair H100i

Heya,

I would recommend the new graphics card (go for the 770, rather than another 580). If you do game, you will enjoy your experience a lot more with a better graphics card, than a new monitor  :D

Graphics card first, monitor later, what good will it do if you have an awesome 1080+ monitor(s) if your GPU cant run the games you want at playable fps

GPU first.

1440p or 1080p for the 27" monitors?

Upgradin from a 580 to a 770 isn't worth it imo. 770 is basicly a 680 and a 680 is only about 30-35% faster than a 580, I highly doubt you'll notice the difference.

Will you get 1440p monitors? becasue if not, you might not want to upgrade your monitors, because 1080p doesn't look very good at 27". At max I'd upgrade one monitor.

Thanks for the quick responses. I was looking at a 27" 1920x1080 monitor because sadly my budget is about $400 not $700+. In the end I might go with something with a better pixel density like the new asus MX series or the Dell P series. I am leaning toward the Asus because of the bezelless design.
