A revolution in mid-tower cases - the Defcon One

Hey guys!

I wanted to bring your attention to this project, currently crowdfunding to make the prototypes;

The final revision of it has been discussed on Toms Hardware, with pretty positive impressions from the editors!

http://www.tomshw.it/news/defcon-one-il-case-per-pc-italiano-e-cambiato-e-sta-per-arrivare-in-commercio-65959

"...A compact system, that is still capable of housing 2 GPUs and four hard drives. An unusual chassis designed to have the highest cooling performance [...] GPUs are generally the hottest component in a case, and by being the same compartment as the other parts, they contribute to raising the temperature, [here] the GPUs are still inside of the case, but have their own airflow [and draw air exclusively from the outside]...."

As well as an article about our crowdfunding campaign for the prototypes on Indiegogo!

"...Our best whishes [..] for the crowdfundign campaing and we'll follow the further developments! "

http://www.tomshw.it/news/case-italiano-defcon-one-si-cercano-fondi-per-realizzare-i-prototipi-66991

Here are some renders of what it will look like and if you want to contribute to the campaign, here is the link http://igg.me/at/defcon-one

i have between waiting for something smaller than an S340 !!!

my next case !

but why is it still wide when the GPUs are on the back like that

i hope they didnt put 5.25 bays because that would be stupid

Who's going to be the OEM?

I like it, but I personally only use horizontally-mounted motherboard cases anymore. But I bet someone will get a kick out of it.

My only big complaint is the window shape. I hate wonky window shapes, if I was in the market for this it'd be a dealbreaker right there. Square or rounded square is fine, asymmetric windows are not. Especially those that cover up the PSU either completely or partially, it's the best looking component I have (Cougar GX 1050)

(Not that this window is THAT bad... Not like an NZXT window anyway)

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

It's that wide because of the HDD+GPU+cable management space - any thinner and puff, no cable management!

This is the "final" version, but since it's a prototype, and a window is a very thing to fix, we could implement that solution if enough people find it appealing :)

It will be manufactured in Italy - laser cut and painting by external companies and everything else by us :)

Thank you! :D spread the word and conttibute if you can! :D

edit

Noticed I forgot the link, thanks :)

the prototype one started yesterday, and if this one goes well, we'll do the production one asap!

i would really like a windowless version even if it costs extra

We could certainly do that - there no structural changes and it's easy to insert a magnetic grid on the GPU side - we'll allow for some degree of customisation on the production campaign and this will be one of them :)

But first we need to get the prototyping one funded...

Doesn't look like the GPU intake will be filtered...

It can be filtered with fixed or magnetic filters with supports on the plexi corners - we'll do further testing on all the compatible kinds but it's definitely somethign you can do if you want :)

With that GPU placement, are they gonna make their own mbo or just some PCIe extension?

We'll provided shielded PCI-E risers, which don't hinder performance (fire-strike score difference is less then 0.2%, more similar to bench fluctuation than signal loss) :)

That's a pretty sexy case. Wonder when Thermaltake's one comes out.

Sounds good, I wish you luck and will recommend you to my brother who is a fan of this type of case.

PS: How is the routing for PCIe power cables to the GPUs? Near the front or near the top of each card?

Thank you! spreading the word certainly helps :)

The power cables for the GPU run behind them and then connect to the pins, so all you'll see is the plastic bit of them :)

I figured something like this, remembered the concept for laptop discrete GPUs after I posted

How does cable management work?

We've devised a specific central section for all the cables, with cut-outs and spaces for the to exit near the components, keeping them as hidden as possible :)

yup,. they work great - we'll provide them for free so that the final user won;t ahev to spend 70$ a piece on the M3 ones :)
