Text message completely powers off iPhones

It seems to be a short soft restart however, it only takes a couple of seconds, at least in the one I tested.

Yep! A group of my friends have been going back and forth with texts. It's funny.

So if I send this to someone, is it like a one time only thing or is there a change his phone will get into a loop?

it's a one time thing. But if u send another message after the phone comes back online it will go down again.

It also works for Android phones as well, for some reason. My G3 got a message saying it and it restarted. ://

 

So many people were doing this in my English class and they went ballistic. I think a few punches were thrown.

So after a few tests with some friends with an iphone it turns out that the app used to send the messages needs to be closed, so you get only the notification, if whatsapp (or whatever you use) it's open even in multitasking it doesn't work.

It doesn't power off the iPhone. It causes the iPhone to respring. A process that takes about 2-5 seconds depending on the iPhone you have. The fix currently is to turn off the banner notifications for messages.

 

Apple will fix it in a few days. They're usually very good about fixing things like this.

They will probably just wait till the iOS 8.4 release which will be coming soon, it's already on dev beta 4 or something.

CNN reported that it was something to do with ISIS and it gave them access to you phone and once it stopped happening it meant they had taken everything they wanted/needed.
