Sorry to steal this thread but DVI can go into DVI, DVI-D, DVI-I correct?

Yes, but DVI-I cannot go into DVI-D.

There is no "plain DVI". There is only DVI-D or DVI-I.

DVI-I is the same as DVI-D but with extra capability (VGA). Since it's just DVI-D with some extra stuff, DVI-I ports will accept both DVI-D and DVI-I cables. However, since DVI-D does not have the extra stuff, DVI-D ports will only accept DVI-D cables, not DVI-I cables.

DVI-I is the same as DVI-D but with extra capability (VGA). A DVI-D cable will plug into a DVI-I port. A device which needs the extra capability of DVI-I and uses a DVI-I connector will only fit into a DVI-I port, not a DVI-D port.

DVI-A is also a thing.

It's defined, but it's not really "a thing". No one makes anything with DVI-A ports unless you specifically Google for it, otherwise they would just make it a VGA port in the first place. The only thing with DVI-A connections are the male connnectors on VGA adapters, so the rules are basically the same. DVI-D ports can only take DVI-D connections, DVI-I ports can take both DVI and VGA connections (whether the adapter is wired for DVI-I or DVI-A doesn't matter).

I don't bring it up because it doesn't matter and only confuses people.
