Plasti-dip does have that smell just work in a well ventilated area. As for the pros and cons other than the being removable part, Plastidip tends to be less durable in the sense of contact or abrasion if you scratch it since it will tear or rip. Also if you've never spray plasti-dip give it a few tries first because there are a variety of different finishes one can achieve from it, going from a sandpaper like flocked finish to a smooth orange peel so it's a bit more tricky in my opinion.

Working in marine paint and blast I have a little bit of experience with paints. The choice of paint mostly comes down to the finish you want, $$$ you are willing to spend and amount of time you are willing to invest. First question you need to ask yourself is what finish you are after and desired lifespan of the finish. For short term or something you aren't sure about plastidip is a great choice because you can easily remove it and change your mind. For a long term finish I would be stepping away from aerosols completely and looking at gravity fed guns with a good enamel. Urathanes will always give the smoothest finish however urathanes can travel huge distances while airborne making overspray a serious issue. If you want a satin or Matt finish enamels work a treat. If you don't have the $$$ or space to drop on doing a gravity fed gun finish on it aersols can give a fairly decent finish just be particular with your prep work. 90% of a finish is prep.

I would suggest to just go with spray paint, I use it on all my moddings and I never experienced any problems with it (only on plastic you can have some problems if you haven't cleaned it well, some spray paints will eat away on plastic too xs)

Plastidip will NOT show well over something that is already black. You would have to apply a rather thick coat of it.

You might choose to mask, then lightly sand the areas you want to paint.

It won't smell at all after a couple days.

Avoid Plastidip, it peels off very easily. Not to mention the Plastidip can version gunks up very easily.

I use Spray paint (Cardinal Paint). The paint is still holding to this date and it's been years since I painted the parts. Some cardinal paint has a texture to it.

It is very different one from another to really make a direct comparison.
The only real similarity is that they both come in a can and apply as an spray.
Plasti Dip is a rubber cover not a paint, it takes more time and efford to make it work than standard spray paints but if you do right you'll end up with somethig paint can't do.
Also there are very limited range of colors to pick from.
The benefit? well if you don't like it you can just peel it... (tho if you did it right it is not as easy as some claim, it has to be durable or noone would ever use it for example in cars I painted some USB3 internal cables since I can't sleeve those and they have hold very good for over 4 months now)
