MSI's new GTX 970 has popped up on PCCG and it looks... Cheap.

Had a quick look at PCCG's site to see if they have anything new and I saw this beauty.

Looks like a two fan version of this bad boy, the R7 260x!

And here's MSI's GTX 970 Gaming, released a long time ago.

What happened, MSI? You fire your design team?

Even though Nvidia has a few graphics cards that are much more expensive, the 970 is still not a cheap card. Well, it's not low to mid-tier, at least. Why are they designing cheap looking coolers for a high-end card?

Here's the PCCG page

Hahahaha that's hideous.

If it were $40 cheaper than the rest of the 970's I'd buy it. And just make sure it never saw the light of day.

970 isn't high-end, at least not in price. It's pretty much the entry level 1440p and future-ready 1080p card.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

ha.

ha ha.

riight.

Anyway, yeah, this card in particular looks like a more budget-friendly option from msi.

Woo!

Lol, it doesn't look that much more expensive than my Gigabyte GTX 650ti OC rev 2's cooler. (And its overkill, 150MHz OC and it stays under 60oC while being silent. It is a well designed cooler though, unlike MSI's new one).

Is this new? I thought I remember seeing this when I was shopping for 970s in November. This being their GTX 970 and the version with the better cooler being the GTX 970 Gaming 4G.

That's actually a budget card. If you look at the models in the past, they did the same thing. Better cooler on a card; eg runs significantly quieter.

Probably a lower priced option, closer to the $300 USD mark

Funny thing is, it's not even that much cheaper in Aus. From PCCG:

  • Only $30 cheaper than the 970 Gaming
  • For $10 less you can get the Galax card. Arguably better looking.
  • For $40 less you can get either a Galax or Gainward card with a blower-design cooler. Both arguably better looking, although lacking in performance.

970 isn't high-end, at least not in price. It's pretty much the entry level 1440p and future-ready 1080p card.

$489 in Aus. Like I said before, it's not the most high-end card from Nvidia, but it's not mid or even mid-high end, which makes it high-end.

Sarcasm :^)

New on PCCG at least.

I guess in the end I'm just bitching about a bad looking graphics card eh :P

This is sold in my country approximately 4000 INR less compared to the Red Gaming version, depending upon seller.

That is 63 USD less, good value to be honest.

For some reason ME version costs that much higher than Gaming version too  :( . I liked ME version, especially because of backplate

Finally got PS4 Pro

Lol even though I got the 960, I'm glad I got the gaming cooler. They've really stepped up their game from the Twin Frozr IV to the V.

The gaming one it does to me

cards in the same price point have a much nicer construction

and don't use cheep looking plastic

3 years ago that would have been a high end card design. That's essentially a 2012 Twin Frozr design.

When you consider the TDP of a 970 it's plenty of cooling.

Maybe someone will buy this card & take off the air cooler to install a water block.

I disagree, I see tons of Aussies on here. Either we're more common or more active than most :P

This is not a new card. It has been sold ever since last year.

I DO agree that it is cheap, though. It has power delivery issues, as seen in this review: http://www.geeks3d.com/20141209/msi-geforce-gtx-970-4gd5t-oc-review/
