Suppose you try disabling all of the C states and Speedstep. Does that make a difference?

Hey guys - I recently upgraded my computer and now I have 2 screens.  Considering I have a GTX680 I'm surprised that I can't run 2 monitors without any lagg?  I'm playing League of Legends but I'm only getting 20-40 fps instead of 60 on a single monitor.  My friends have worse off GPU's and they can run 2 monitors in 60 fps still.

 

Specs:

 

CPU - Intel Core i7 4770k

Mobo - Asus Sabertooth Z87

RAM - 16Gb DDR3 1866Mhz 

PSU - AX 860W Platinum

HDD - 2TB Western Digital Caviar Black x 2, 1TB Samsung and 60Gb SSD

GPU - 2GB GByte GTX680 OC WindForce3

Case - Corsair C70 White

Cooling - H110

Monitors - 2 23"

Keyboard - Corsair K60.

Mouse - Razer Naga Hex Wraith Red Edition.

Headphones - Gamecom 780's. 

 

EDIT:

 

     I tried it with a single monitor and it's the exact same.

 

     I tried back dating my drivers.  No luck.

 

     I tried re-updating my drivers.  No luck.

 

     Overclocked and lost a hard drive in the process.  I am now 1TB down.

 

     I switched the GTX 680 and HDDs into a different system (i5 3570, 8 Gb RAM, MSI Z77MA-G45 Z77 Ivy Bridge Motherboard, stock cooling in a very small case) and the system worked perfectly - I didn't drop below 60 FPS at all for some reason.

You only have 2GB of VRAM and that is not really enough for a newer games even on a single 1080p monitor, so you will have to get a GTX 780 or some sort of gaming GPU which has at least 3GB of VRAM. Other options are: lower your settings or get rid of the second monitor.

Cant be the VRAM a 680 is fine running games in nvidia surround and he is running only 2 monitors and league is not very demanding.

That's not the problem. League of Legends is very resource-light. You could max it out on an overclocked GT 440.

My friend literally has a AMD 6780 HD Sapphire with 2GB VRAM and he's doing it fine, 60 fps in league with full settings and a guide on his other screen - constant 60 fps.

What did you upgrade exactly? The entire system or just a specific part? If it was a specific part did you uninstall the older drivers and clean them correctly or did you just reinstall Windows?

Up=graded the entire system deduct hard drives and my GPU.

Fresh install of Windows?

well it is not the 680, my friend has the same and runs LoL 250+ fps uncapped... I recenly got a second monitor and i didn't see any FPS change.

Must be a driver or some software

I am re-downloading the latest driver now and re-installing it.  Hopefully, it will work again but as of yet I'm at low FPS.

Do you have more than one PCI slot? Try putting the graphics card in a different slot, you may have it in a x8 slot.

2 x 2tb Caviar Black, a 1TB Samsung drive for junk and a 64GB SSD for my OS.

Is your hard drive for games having a lot of activity at all?

Yes. It will be an x8 slot. They're wired for x8.

Try downgrading your driver back to 314.22 .

I'll try it.

I have 3 PCI slots, it's in a 16x slot though.

 

EDIT: I think it's a 16x slot anyway.

If you have the card in the very top PCI-E slot it should be a x16 slot.

I typed out PCI-E but because he didn't put the '-E', I thought I was wrong aha

How did you go about doing that?

 

What need to do is:

Going to the add/remove and uninstall them (and everything nvidia).

Reboot.

Launching the 314.22 install and choosing "Custom>Clean Install>uncheck: geforce experience & updater (orsomething like that).

 

 

Now keep in mind that it might not be the issue but it will rule out the faulty driver family (320).

Just re-installed after removing them, done a clean install too.  Going to test it in a few hours when I wake up though I hope it works.
