GTA5 Port Problems & Praises

Nexxus

Speeds are still capped, thoroughly hate that. Even the fastest cars can barely get to 140. Does look good though, runs like a dream all maxed out with silky smooth 144hz IPS G-sync goodness. But I wanna go fastttt.

Positive: Game runs smooth at 1440p with everything maxed except settled on 2x MSAA, and Water reflection MSAA off. Allows me to turn on High resolution shadows and stay at 3780mb Vram usage. Getting between 40-60fps, sweet spot for my G-sync monitor. Smooth as silk. B)

Negative: Minor issue with Benchmark. Ran it yesterday and got in a weird endless fail loop on what was the first mission of the game, kept looping with no way out to menu. Ended up having to Alt-Tab out and terminate the game and restart. I read on Guru3D that the benchmark only works after you've completed the prologue and intro, errors out otherwise. Past that now so may try again later.

Does it actually run at 144 FPS? Their pre-release materials kept hyping up the 60 FPS thing, it sounded to me like it could be a cap.

So on 4k with my 4670 and gtx 980 i get 100% GPU and only 35% CPU use and im getting between 29.6-45fps. At 1080p, i get 60fps with the odd drop to 30-40fps, but my cpu hits 100% usage. To be honest id rather play at 4k at 30-40fps than 1080p at 30-60fps. Especially considering how much nicer 4k looks.

(Side note, first time ive played any game at 1080p since i went full 4k on tv and monitor couple months back. Naysayers of 4k, its a lot easier going forward than it is backwards :/ )

What fps do you get when driving trough busy streets? And does your CPU hit 100% in those cases?

I'm curious to hear if Nvidia's drivers are more efficient in terms of CPU overhead. I have a 290X, and just driving around I get 60-70 fps, 50-60 when there are a lot of vehicles and action. And that's on 1080p with a mixture of Very High and High settings.

Are hardware stats more important to you than fps? First time I see someone has overlay with no fps counter lol.

I'm getting 30-40fps. No AA so vram isn't really any higher than 1080p with msaa. I'm getting 99% GPU and only 35-40% CPU. Very odd how different people results are with different hardware.

Weird.

I get 100% on ALL  cpu cores on my i5 while driving around the city.

MSI 270x.

Ugh, I wish I'm wrong, but I believe high CPU usage is caused by AMD's inefficient DX11 driver. I'm getting my 4670K maxed out as well and bottlenecking my GPU, making my fps drop to ~50 fps, sometimes even lower.

Runs fine here ,

Download the 15.4 beta drivers.

Did you see the benchmarks?

60+ Average on all runs , runs like butter,

Yea but they used high-end i7's for testing, which somewhat mitigate the problem. I do have 15.4 drivers.

hmm those were MINE benchmarks xD

I am runing high textures / fxaa  msaa x2 and the rest at very high/high @ 1440x900.

These are my benchmarks with the new drivers.

Just a heads up im no longer going to be updating the 1st post anymore simply because we are a few days in and there are enough statements there I think people get the jist of it at this point. Feel free to keep talking though hope the thread was useful to some of you.

on a 4670k and 660 oc'd I get 80-120fps with everything set to low @1080p but insane micro stutters that kinda ruin it for me. Very annoying  No fps dips but constant micro stuttering. Got the game installed on my SSD too so not sure why its happening.

My Strix 970 and Xeon E3-1230 v3 are doing fine maxed with MSAA at 2x and motion blur off, but PostFX at Very high. Everything else is as high as it'll let me set it. Dips of 55ishFPS, and averaging like 90FPS with my overclock of 1528Mhz and like 1900Mhz on the memory... But driver 347.52 doesn't care for GTA V too much.. Tends to crash them even at stock clocks, but no other games do, and nor do benchmarks... At stock clocks I get around 75FPS with the game at the same settings and drops of 50FPS. One flaw... vramgate = hella stutter sometimes... I've hit 3.8-3.9GB of vram used before, and it just freezes until it stops using so much... :(

Other then Nvidia fucking up with the 970, GTA V is decent imo. Plus, I have friends to play with. :D

Edit: My GPU usage is always at 90%+ and my CPU usage sits at around 65%-90% on all cores and threads.

i5-4440, 8GB RAM, GTX 760 (2GB)

Pros:

-Good port, lots of settings

-Runs 45-60FPS almost maxed with FXAA on my mid-range GPU

-Pretty fun game (this was my first time ever playing it, ever)

-Looks pretty good; impressive lighting for what's technically a last-gen port

-Insane amount of detail in the environment + animations

-First-person mode is present, though I'm not using it personally.

-Not a ton of noticeable pop-in

-Foliage wraps around characters and moves naturally

Cons:

-Textures range from decent to embarrassing when maxed... Very disappointed with how that turned out. Clothing especially is hit-or-miss, and even at the best times, textures feel like dusted-off last-gen versions.

-Shadows go from high-quality to pixelated about three feet from your character, even when all settings are maxed

-Shadows along buildings and walls look TERRIBLE unless you're right up against the objects.

-Water looks nice, but reacts minimally when moved through, and sea-foam textures are awful. Watch_Dogs showed off some damn-impressive water that everyone should copy.

-Cars all seem to turn based on the center of the vehicle, not the front wheels, so cars swerve and turn so strangely; though I'm getting used to it.

-Car damage seems oddly minimal even at high-speed crashes

-No triple buffering in the game settings (though the Nvidia control panel took care of that)

So it's a solid port, but textures and the shadow rendering system both seem too last-gen to be the 'ultimate version.' I'm a bit through the campaign and have played around in Online for a few hours (and the servers are solid!), and it's definitely filling up my $60's worth nicely.
