GTA5 Port Problems & Praises

Nexxus

The fanboy is strong in this one.

I'm not a fanboy, I even have a 290X in my rig -_-. I was just stating Nvidia GPUs have the upper hand in GTA V as per the benchmarks I posted.

Nvidia payed for optimizations as usual.

Gta V is a game wrecks game .

What did you expect.

This happens for all game wrecks games.

No, I don't think that's what's going on here. Check this post of mine. You can see there my CPU and GPU usage. There are a lot of GPU usage drops, and they're quite significant, while all of my 4670k's 4 cores are at 90%+ load, often hitting 100%. Obviously my 290X is not being fully utilized, hence it makes sense it performs worse than a GTX 970. But how is it possible that the same CPU is able to fully feed a GTX 970 but not a 290X?

Do you remember Nvidia's 337.50 driver? The one that optimized their DX11 and reduced CPU overhead. I believe it was Nvidia's response to Mantle, and now thanks to Mantle Nvidia users have much better DX11 performance than AMD. Here's a thread on OCN with a collection of benchmarks that prove this: http://www.overclock.net/t/1528559/directx-driver-overhead-and-why-mantle-is-a-selling-point-bunch-of-benchmarks

Nvidia sponsors games in return for optimizations. AMD sponsors other games (EA's Frostbite 3 games, many Square Enix ports, Star Citizen to list just a few) in return for optimizations. This is not new and while it may seem like questionable conduct it does not make sense to selectively condemn Nvidia for it.

When they do sponsor them, don't they usually have their logo after the publisher's?

Ok running at 4k on a 4670 (non k) reference gtx 980 and 8GB 1600mhz RAM. Im maxing out my GPU constantly with CPU only hitting 70% usage. This is the same with settings on Ultra or on very high minus Msaa (not needed at 4k) Vsync off, motion blur and dof off and ambient occlusion set to normal.

Spoiler

No problems here.

i5-2500

16GB DDR3-1333 CL7

2x MSI GTX770 4GB in SLI

Win7 SP1

Running on 1080p, just about every graphics setting maxed out (MSAA X2, but apart from that it's all maxed) at a rock-steady 60fps.

The game adds up the cards' VRAM and would let me use all 8GB of it if I could crank the settings any higher.  Currently using 6914/8190 MB)

Why do developers put chromatic aberration in games? Does anyone like it? I personally hate it. Hope someone finds a way to disable it.

My only problems so far with the game are graphcial rendering issues (where the game doesnt render the road/building/etc) to where I have to stop and wait so I can see where I am going and it seems like it lags behind actions?? Example of that is the first story mission as Franklin when you are repo'ing the 2 cars. The NPC will stand there at the cars for a bit (after I get into one) and then go on with his lines and get in his car. Another example is getting into a car I will press F (or y on my gamepad) and then it will take me a bit to actually enter the car, I'll just stand next to it for a few seconds.

I am getting some frame drops and stuck at 59 frames most of the time and I cannot use more then 2 GB of my 3 GB a sapphire Dual-X R9 280 3GB card. It might be my Intel® Core™ i5-3450 CPU @ 3.10GHz bottle necking though I don't know for sure.

Yes I had that when V sync was enabled. When I turned it off it was more or less higher frame rate but hovered around 60, but with screen tearing.

GPU: R9 290 slight oc (Cant remember off the top of my head)

Ram: 8gb 1600mhz

Settings, Everything is Maxed except: Grass is Very high instead of Ultra, Msaa is 2x, Reflection msaa is 2x, and shadows are high instead of very high.

Never drops below 50, getting 80+ in the city, low 60's in the country side

i´m fighting a bit with settings, had to take a smidge of the top, running 4K 970´s SLI (X8 on both cards) on a 4790k stock everything. (i´m not really keen on OC´ing the CPU is hitting 65 degrees (crappy socket 1150 platform) and the GPU´s 70/69 in game.

everything on ultra except MSAA is off, grass is a step down from ultra, and shaders also at step down, i´m not really sure what does what performance wise..

the game with an FPS counter running (sometime it feels that, the FPS counter demands takes a few FPS) 52-64 FPS, 52 when everything is exploding..

Issues

  • my screen is only 59hz in settings, don´t know why its a P2715Q A01, it runs fine 60hz in all other games.
  • Benchmark tool will not run, it just loops gaming scenes without FPS counter.
  • All multiplayer seems a bit buggy, when entering "instances" like Team Deathmatch, even with 20+ in the lobby for a 8 person game, it just keeps changing hosts, and timer keeps going up to 2 minutes, waited 20 minutes in lobby before load, which simple ended up keeping the game in an eternal load sequence.

but story and "freeroam" multiplayer works like a charm, no issues and break downs.

So on 4k with my 4670 and gtx 980 i get 100% GPU and only 35% CPU use and im getting between 29.6-45fps. At 1080p, i get 60fps with the odd drop to 30-40fps, but my cpu hits 100% usage. To be honest id rather play at 4k at 30-40fps than 1080p at 30-60fps. Especially considering how much nicer 4k looks.

(Side note, first time ive played any game at 1080p since i went full 4k on tv and monitor couple months back. Naysayers of 4k, its a lot easier going forward than it is backwards :/ )

When they do sponsor them, don't they usually have their logo after the publisher's?

Maybe not always right there, but they do typically throw their logo (and/or PhysX, Gameworks, Eyefinity, etc.) somewhere. They also tend to use their sponsored games in their own marketing materials: http://www.amd.com/en-us/markets/game/featured/all-games/star-citizen

You can also sometimes tell by the presence of certain proprietary technologies in the game: PhysX, MLAA, TXAA for Nvidia, and Mantle, TrueAudio, SMAA, etc. for AMD.
