GTA5 Port Problems & Praises

Nexxus

Weird, my friend with xfire 7970 says the driver made his butter smooth.

Full reinstall of drivers?

Sure did.

I can play the game with no aa and mostly cranked up at 1440p, but I run into vram issues... fuck you NVidia for gimping the 780 ti with 3GB of vram. I might upgrade, gg NVidia. Otherwise it's perfectly smooth.

windows version? As I said above want to have something people can refrence to get an idea how it might work for them

at 1080p maxed out with 2x msaa, shadows on softest, NVidia settings disabled (txaa looks like shit.) I am getting 70+fps with dual 980's and an i7 3930k It runs ok but the GPU's aren't getting used enough which is a problem since I have a 144hz panel and would like to play at 144 fps. I will toy around with the settings and report back.

Here's what happens at 1080p, with a mixture of very high (shader, textures, particles) and high settings (pretty much all the rest), most of those being default, except for post processing, which I don't like.

First off, GPU usage.

i6MsJhH.png

Now, the thing is, fps drops below 60 quite often. Whenever that happens, GPU usage drops, as you can see from the graph above, which means that my 290X is capable of rendering 60+ fps.

Now let's look at CPU usage.

aAd4iwf.png

CPU usage is 90%+ throughout the gameplay, often hitting 100%. So obviously, it's a CPU bottleneck. It's either because GTA V is extremely heavy on the CPU, or it's due to AMD's DX11 driver having a lot of CPU overhead. I believe it's the latter. http://www.overclock.net/t/1528559/directx-driver-overhead-and-why-mantle-is-a-selling-point-bunch-of-benchmarks

To make things worse, I'm also having frametime spikes.

DFcozuo.png

Horrible frametime spikes. They're like that hitching in FC4, although not that often. I've no idea what might be causing this.

Also, VRAM usage that the game reports is way off. It said 2.5 GB and it was actually using 3.1 GB. Highest VRAM usage I've seen was 3.4 GB, and that's at 1080p.

6.5GB of vram used.

NO SLI detection... only used one card it seems. Correction: Installing the new drivers wiped my SLI profile, I don't know why. Never happened before.

Out of interest, anyone far enough to tell me what's the character switch time using an SSD? I be seen videos of people putting SSDs into consoles and it having a great improvement on load times in gta 5.

installing new drivers always disables SLI at least on the 600 series. never once have I not had to renable it.

Well ive lowered a lot of the settings, everything at high settings with draw distance, population density and population variety all half was down, and at 1440p with 290x crossfire I get 79 fps with drops to 40 fps which sucks. Ive got a free sync monitor so at 40 fps its unplayable.

Pretty much my thoughts. Game runs great, can't even think of doing anything outside of it while its running.

The game has low res textures, they look horrible up close in first person, though very good at a distance.

Does anyone else get occasional microstutters? Like, hitches/freezes for a split second.

Game looks and runs great.
The only problem I have is that to max out the game you need a card with 4GB of vram and I only have 2GB :/ (Seems it's time to upgrade)

My impressions so far - game is well optimised. The amount of resources consumed is appropriate for the graphical fidelity received. My rig is i5-4430, 8GB, MSI GTX 970 Gaming(runs at stock clocks) - with everything on very high, tesselation on high, 2x AA (TXAA enabled), as well as all the advanced graphical options maxed - FPS hovers around 60, 45 was the lowest, 80 was the highest. Windows 7 OS, game is installed onto 7200 RPM HDD, latest drivers.

With VSync on - massive, ridiculous amounts of input latency. I know VSync sometimes causes input lag, but I have never seen a game where it is that bad. Literally unplayable with VSync on.

Overall - great port, minor complaints, but nothing critical. My impressions are, however, based on single player only, I have not touched multiplayer yet.

11/10 Will ruin my life.

2 minor annoyances though :

2) With VSync off - very noticeable screen tearing. Again, it is supposed to happen with VSync off when FPS exceeds 60, but in GTA 5 it seems to be worse than most other titles I've played in the past years.

Overall - great port, minor complaints, but nothing critical. My impressions are, however, based on single player only, I have not touched multiplayer yet.

I played for 4 hours with VSync on. :/

this game is just not happening for me, my cpu is a piece of shit, but i figured the gpu would pick up the slack, guess i was wrong

im getting fps in the 40s with frame drops at 1080 max, and still in the 40s with frame drops at 900p lowest settings

I'm noticing my cpu usage is rather high , from 40%-90% depending on where I am ect , it's an excellent port tho. Rather impressed with it so far
