Massdrop Keyboard

The question that's been coming up on the Massdrop thread a lot is whether or not there is a US accessible warranty on this keyboard.  If not, spending a bit more on one of the usual suspects might be the better option.

Looks like a version of it is available on Amazon too, for more money:  http://www.amazon.com/Beyondtek-Z-77-Mechanical-Keyboard-Backlit/dp/B0047FBLAC/

Really?  Read up on some of the less than 5 star reviews on Amazon for the brand of your choice.  I don't care if it's Razer, Corsair (bad LEDs usually), Thermaltake or Cooler Master (best response to negative reviews), all of them have been shipped back under *warranty*.  Seriously, for any peripheral floating around the $100 price mark, the warranty probably makes up half the price.  I'm typing this on a $30 CM Storm Devastator combo right now and even that cheapo combo has a two year warranty (and they are good with their RMA's too!)  LOL

Thats true but also are in the minority. How may millions of people are typing on one of those keyboards with no issues? And then compare that to the hundreds or thousands who had problems. Idk ive never had any issues with any keyboard and no one i know has ether. RMAs are defiantly the minority. Plus people with bad experiences with a product are more likely to speak out about it and complain, while people with good ones just use the product and not worry about reviewing it. I know im guilty of this lol.

Also for the price of the keyboard it not a huge investment like a corsair keyboard or something

It's still almost $100 (after shipping).  For that much money, I dunno.  Is a two year warranty, even a one year warranty too much to ask?

I show $79.99 for the keyboard and $10.35 for shipping...  That's $90.34.  Not bad at all but when you consider Massdrop has a couple of Thermaltake for less, with real Cherry MX switches AND a five year warranty I'm not sure how good a deal this one really is, not to mention deals on razer, corsair, cm, rosewill, etc. though places like newegg and amazon in the same $100 price range (give or take $10-20), with a warranty and ships out this week!

I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet.  I like the idea of the metal frame and floating keys.  The "hybrid" RGB is pretty cool but other than that it's just a cherry on top of the sundae, since I won't be looking at them much anyway...  I really NEED back lighting, with 104+ keys.  I want mechanical "clicky" switches and a good price deal will make me buy sooner rather than later.  Other than that?  I'm not sure yet but I think a warranty from a company (or even a reseller) with a good customer service record is worth at least +$20 to me (or that keyboard $20 cheaper!)  I haven't given up on this one yet and I'm really hoping Massdrop pulls their heads out of the sand and gives us a simple answer before the end of drop.  I guess we'll see...

Omg this looks nice in white, but I have never seen this before

It does look amazing! But it looks like a copy of the K65/K70/K95 Like almost exact with the shape. The white would get dirty, well for me since I'm a fat pig.

And that the K70 white limited edition is going for around $300, when you can find them ;)

WTF?! Why would people want that... For a different color? I could just go get some white key caps and be jolly.

Actually the Azio MGK1 really reminds me of a cheaper K70...  Same design (without the non-standard bottom row!), aluminum face, even has a similar volume "roller" in the upper right hand corner.  Kailh switches instead of Cherry, white LED instead of red, with a one year warranty, and only $79.95 (free shipping with prime!)  :D

o i just emailed mass drop about the keyboard and the warranty and all of that. This was there response!! Original messages attached also

Hi *****,

Thanks for reaching out to the Massdrop Support team, and good question! In general, Massdrop vows to honor the manufacturer's warranty -- even if the manufacturer doesn't end up honoring their warranty should they not cover products that were resold through unauthorized resellers. Should your keyboard arrive defective or with missing parts, we would ask for proof and we would be more than happy to initiate the replacement process.

Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

Best,
Kat

Me and several other people have a question about one of your drops. The E-Element RGB Keyboard. We are all wondering what kind of manufacturers warranty ships with the keyboard. That way we have a way to make sure that it ships in full working order. And if the warranty is able to be redeemed in the USA. Just if you can find that out for us. Thank you!

LOL!

I wrote them too with a few suggestions.

I contacted a person in their support department I had corresponded with before and have not heard back yet.

Hopefully, if these are coming direct from China (with the longshoreman strike and all) I would hope Massdrop will do what they did with the AKG K7XX drop... that is order like an extra 50 units to do fast replacements with.  If no RMA/warranty eats them up then they can sell the extras off in a quick sale at a later date.

Still, the fact that they replied to an email and not the actual discussion thread (yet) leaves me thinking they should hire me to run their support department ;)

Idk I think that's normal considering how many hundreds of reply on some of the drops are lol. May be a little much to for someone to do.

But it looks and sounds like they will be backing the keyboard with a warranty. So no reason NOT to go for it now huh

Nah, they have several tiers of support, a full blown chain of command.  I won't buy it until I see a Massdrop official say something in that thread (or the description) saying what they are prepared to do.

As for your email, it doesn't say anything about a warranty on this specific product... only what they "try" to do with every product.  The best she could promise you is that if you get one that's broken or DOA that they would do their best to resolve the problem, which is the right thing to do if they DON'T have a warranty to offer (Can you tell I have some experience in marketing and customer support?  ;) )

I'm with Oktyabr, I've had really bad experiences with Chinese products that seem to be really good but in the end they don't deliver. The main problem is the life span of their products, they seem to be designed to work fine for a short period of time.

Sorry guys, but if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. I will wait for another drop.

Okay so i was exploring Massdrop earlier today and i found the E-Element RGB keyboard, link to the drop below. My question is has anyone herd of this brand or this keyboard? I cant find anything on them at all. It looks veryveryvery nice. It almost looks like a k70 RGB clone other than the standard bottom row. Anyone know anything about the keyboard and switches and stuff????

https://www.massdrop.com/buy/e-element-rgb-keyboard?utm_source=Sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_term=Community%20-%20Mechanical%20Keyboards%20-%20MAU%20%28Active%29&utm_campaign=Mech%20Keys%20Active%20Product%20Announcement%202015-04-12&mode=guest_open

Have you gotten your answer yet? I've gotten the keyboard from Massdrop  (different poster). And They're pretty premium feeling. They don't have the bells and whistles as your Razers and Steelseries(es), but they do give the same feeling. They are very tactile and clicky. I'm going to say that they are a tad bit louder than MX Blues. I kinda like it (IMO). The RGB lighting are changed via the function key. There are 6 functions and it cycles through the spectrum pretty okay. And, it's heavy. Heavy for an $80 keyboard. Hopefully my experience with it helps you... Sorta...
