AMD x86 16-core Zen APU detailed

ahhming

great, hyperthreading so we lose half the integer units for a measly 50% boost in IPC i bet.

fair enough its an apu which till now ive never rated as enthusiast parts (purely because of no good software), maybe well get a 6 core cpu (like fx6) but with hyperthreading plus a 250x gpu core with 10 compute units, easy way to break the teraflop of compute barrier on an apu.

edit-unless these are something like carrizo as has previously been talked about or the new kabini refresh whatever its called, in which case 16 cores is more like an fx8 which is great for low power stuff
think of a server with 8 cores 16threads with a 125w tdp combined with a 7750 gpu part for around 1Tflop of compute power
i dunno untill i see the gpu specs of this thing.

actually the A10-7850K has like 95Watt TDP

times 4 is just only like 380 Watts

only equal to a bad ass GPU

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

This is a new architecture, on a 16nm process... sono, temps will be in check i am sure

no, this is based on SMT. so hardware MT is done through doubling the registers, not adding FPUs.

when did the A10 hit 100 degrees?

did you boil water with the A10 as your heater?

I was almost excited and sold, when i saw graphics and APU ... are you fucking kidding me? tell me this is the APU version and not the dedicated desktop CPU..

What the actual fuck...How is this a 16 core 32 threads if its 12 core gpu and 4 core cpu makes no fucking sense.

Someone clear this for me cause i dont understand is this actually the CPU we've been waiting for with up to 16 x86 physical cores with "hyperthreading" apart from graphics?

It says in the picture "16 AMD Zen x86 Cores"

Also, read what @LukaP has said

Edit: wait that's from an hour ago, sht

Specs: CPU: AMD FX 6300 Motherboard: Gigabyte 970A DS3P RAM: HyperX Fury 16GB 1866MHz GPU: MSI R9 270 OC edition Case: Sharkoon VS3-S SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB HDD: 1TB Caviar Blue PSU: Corsair CX500W

How do you think it'll effect the consumer range of CPUs that they'll be releasing soon enough if this is what we have to look forward to? Finally an option other than Intel for systems wanting to multi-task efficiently?

Always trying to find reason.

I assume with shared memory the HBM memory also gets used by the x86 cores. Obviously bandwidth is not a problem with that but I wonder how the latency is.

With 16GiB HBM memory, you don't even need to buy memory modules for most desktop usage cases. ;)

16 core APU?!!!

oh maybe its their marketing again

12 GPU cores and 4 CPU cores

oh god! please, no.

Edit: it does say 16 x86 cores though.

Let's wait until it's released.

Even if it released a year from now, which would mean it'd be a year slower in release schedules, there won't be new consoles for at least another four or five years. By then this will become dated and only Frankensteined in to a machine because it's cheap, not because it's good.

I think this won't be disappointing, since dx12 is coming it doesn't matter if not all of them are cpu cores, they all will be used and 32threads is still impressive.

Yeah and it's akin to a GTX 470 in five year's time essentially. That's not good. That's not bleeding edge, that's just lackluster and subpar performance for the time period.

Does this mean we will be seeing, combined with DX12/Mantel/Vulcan, really good dual graphics (if using a discrete card) solutions, for desktop?

Thanks anyway

Hope its good

APU's are actually a really good thing for budget builds as well as general office machines.

No body said it's bleeding edge, bleeding edge is freaking expensive, take the i7 5960X and Titan X that's bleeding enough ??

Now do you seriously think console will have blessing edge ??

How is the 290 akin to 470 ??

How is the 290 below average performance ??
