I'll leave my two cents here.

I'm a straight white male. I understand that some people (many in fact) find affection in persons whom are the same gender as they are. This doesn't bother me much, but I don't want to spill all my thoughts and leave negativity. I still have my own thoughts, I would still be sad if my child were homosexual to an extent. It's not because there's necessarily something wrong with them, because there isn't. I wouldn't find the idea that I may not have grandchildren (given they don't find a carrier/donor for a child or adopt one) particularly nice. I come from a pretty traditional mindset, but I try to offset that in my thinking. Put basically, while I wouldn't be 100% happy with having a homosexual/transgender child for whatever reasons, I still accept and welcome those who exist and have a different mindset and outlook on such a situation. I would never scold my child for being the way they were, as I know it's not just an opinionated choice. It's the way you are.

I mean not to offend anyone. If you are offended, please tell me and I will address your concerns.

Straight, find anything else weird to me. Don't care what someone else is, that is who they choose to be, doesn't often affect me.

Fair enough, I expect that people think differently and like to see that they do. The world can't be so one-sided, or else it would be ignorant to pretty much everything :)

True, just seems like they want to understand but refuse to accept it which for some people (like me) can run into a problem trying to come out to their family.

I think it's a case of different people reacting to different things in different ways. It can be confusing and complicated and doesn't always make sense right away.

That is also very true. For my family its they refuse to accept anything else then straight. So when I had my first boyfriend in highschool I had to do all I could for them not to find out. But as time went on its torn me apart about wanting to tell them but not wanting to risk my family not accepting me for who I am.

It's just one of things that are always on your mind about wanting to tell but not wanting to risk a bad outcome.

Yeah, I only know of a few people who have come out to be a zoo to there family.

As for the gay bit, we aren't a huge devoted christian family. Never really gone to church. But they have shown there dislike for gays (both male and female) on a few occasions..

I can't imagine why anyone would tell their family about being a zoo. I've never told my family anything about my sex life; I don't really see the reason to reveal things they'd otherwise never know about.

If they grew up being taught that the sun revolved around the earth that's probably what they'd believe too.

To be fair, you can make a perfectly valid model of the solar system with everything rotating around the earth... instead of elipses you get spirographs.

It sounds like that's something you're struggling with. Are you talking to someone about it? Is there someone at your school like a counselor you could talk to about it? It sounds like it might help you. :0/

So its only friends and if I want to pay for a counselor, there is times I'll talk to my friends and honestly just cry about it. Its hard trying to figure out what to do.

To me, the argument of homosexuality being a "choice" is an interesting one.  I don't see the "being a choice" part as a bad thing.  Sexual attraction is a programmed response:  whether you get excited when meeting someone of the same sex; or staring a tree, it is simply a neurological incident that induces a chemical reaction.

I believe the argument for any sort of attraction towards someone of the same sex as being uncontrollable, or not a choice, is there because of the stupid ways some people treat those that are "different" from themselves.  It is easy to just say: it is not a choice.  This can further the ideological distance between someone that is "gay" and someone that is "ignorantly straight".  What I mean by ignorantly straight, is that they look down on anyone not "straight" and place themselves on a moral and ethical pedestal above anyone that is gay.

I am not trying to fuel a flame war, but I am trying to further an argument.  If violence towards LGBT was a non-factor, would this argument of whether it is a choice, or not a choice, matter?

To be honest I think what you're experiencing is a perfectly natural reaction. :0/

Generally speaking I think we all wish the world were a perfect place where we could all live perfect lives, where things were simple, easy to understand and easy to deal with, but...

...and we all know this: life isn't like that.

The further away from average a person is, generally speaking, the more difficult their life is going to be and people don't want bad things for their children or for their children to have to miss out on things like having children of their own (which something like being gay might mean).

I'm out of school now.

So its only friends and if I want to pay for a counselor, there is times I'll talk to my friends and honestly just cry about it. Its hard trying to figure out what to do.

I guess if you wanted to look at it pragmatically, you could weigh the benefits of talking about it against the cost of the counseling, but sometimes it's just best to take that step to invest in yourself and your own well-being.

I know some people don't believe in therapy and I used to be an evangelist for therapy but sometimes it's just good to be able to talk to someone. :0/

I hope i don't get labelled as homophobic or a hater but why does a persons sexuality/sex or even nationality matter, we're all just people chatting to other people that like tech stuff :)

I can sympathies completely with that view. I really do and I understand why.

On a website like this it doesn't matter at all, except for conservations like this. People join the forums because of the community that LTT has developed that is different from others. Identity matters a bit more on this forum than others, so topics like these are a bit more relevant.

Sexuality terms are just label for basically who we like, and how we like them. Overly simplified but I hope I made the point I am trying to make. They are useful for social situations, especially concerning relationships. Nationality doesn't matter as much in my opinion, unless you are talking about prices for parts and such. With the internet, culture is becoming separate from nations. Which is very different from how it used to be.

"Normandy" i7 4790K - GTX 970 - Phantom 410 (Gun metal) - Z97 Extreme4 (asrock) - 128GB Crucial SSD - 1TB WD HDD - H60 Refurb. - 7 case fans | G710+ Keyboard, G230 Headset, Acer GN246HL Monitor.

Quick thoughts on system: I7 is extremely quick and I'm glad I spent the extra for hyper-threading. I regret my decision to get the GTX 970, it has horrible coil whine. There isn't any excuse for this terrible whine I and others are having. I HIGHLY recommend a 144hz monitor. Future Improvements/upgrades: Rubber fan mounts, basic speakers, more ram (for a total of 16gb), replace GPU.

144hz is love. 144hz is life. I like to submit unfinished posts then do about 20 edits. I like the Night Theme too.

I'm mostly straight and mostly boring, but I had same sex encounters in the past and wouldn't discard future ones. I am usually more comfortable at gay bars and such however, I find straight bars boring and kinda shitty since my main objective on a bar is to chat and get shit faced, not to hook up with anyone.

I know it doesn't "make me gay" or anything like that, but the vast majority of my friends outside the interwebz are girls, mainly LGBT ones I've met in the GSA.

So my question:

Does your school (if you still attend) have a GSA or sorts?
