Maybe I just have a better work ethic when it comes to making a computer do what I want it to do.

Everyone is fatally attracted to the slow death of convenience on the computer… fuck convenience, honestly. I work a little bit to get what I want going, and once it’s set up, it’s pretty much maintenance-free. People expect the wrong things when using GNU/Linux.

Well I like convience too but, I've never had any issues with Ubuntu being inconvenient, Debian has a bit of a curve as does Fedora WS. Though for me that's not an expectation or desire of GNU/Linux. I like it because I can make it as complex or as simple as I want it to be. I mean that's the beautiful part of it is, that I could make my own distro if I really wanted to or play around with something like Arch. Though I'm just fine using Ubuntu or Debian or Fedora WS because they do what I want it to do. I like the UI and UX that they offer and pretty solid too. Though a lot of the UI and UX is dependent on the Desktop environment I noticed.

Just for the record, even though Windows UI scaling is still shit (especially when the application uses a non-standard UI toolkit), it's still much better than Linux scaling. Linux needs to catch up to Windows and Mac OS in that regard.

Eh but there's still a lot of laptops with 1366x768 displays. 4K seems more like a burden than a benefit.

I used to own a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro, with that fancy 13.3" 3200x1800 display.

Using it became such a PITA I didn't want it anymore.

Hmm...
Yeah I'd rather improve display technologies over improving display resolutions. 1080p and 1440p are just fine for most uses, since the PPI is high enough to where you won't see pixels at certain sizes and distances away from the display.

I mean screw it let's just return to CRTs sure they're heavy but they seem to have some benefits that LCD/LED don't have. Though maybe this isn't the case anymore idk.

Holy shit why are servers so fucking cheap over there?!!!!

Here in canada I'm looking for one and the cheapest i've ever seen is $70 CAD + $40 shipping!!

and thats why i buy pentium 4's and use them as a server..

nvm,my dad just happened to get a fuck ton of p4's for free...

Yeah, at my school I could've picked up a whole ton of stuff for free, except most of the stuff is DDR RAM, broken monitors, 10/100Gbps switches or got the schools insurance stickers on them, so they would have to speak to the headteacher, who isn't keen on most things if it doesn't involve money or the school itself, however, I did get 2 laptops for free (apparently one was abandoned after a repair and the other was the technician's own machine).

i picked up a free pentium d..

poor thing.

i can also pick up i think

single

core

amd

laptops

2gb ram

windows vista SP1

Seems like your school's technicians know a bit more about tech than mine (e.g. we threw away 2 £1000 projectors since the VGA ports were fried somehow by 2 different machines and because the school probably wouldn't finance repairs).

Meanwhile my school uses VGA at 800x600.

Wow a netgear GS108T here new costs $150 CAD..... grr... I need at least 10 ports for my setup...

my family just bought 2x 8 port switches and called it done

Oh.

Yeah, AOL-Time-Warner-Charter-Taco-Bell-US-Government Cable sells us 200Mbps down, 20Mbps up for ~$65/mo. A one-way trip to Canada runs at about 10Mbps down, 5Mbps up through the VPN.

TWC knows I know about Google Fiber, and is trying to entice me to stay on their shitty copper network instead of moving to Google.

@Daring yeah, I plan on upgrading to an unlocked Kaby Lake Core i7 with an Iris Pro iGPU later on. Plus I have fast RAM that needs to be overclocked :P
