IMO this is a good move for the future of LMG.

I checked this page. https://www.vessel.com/creators It say's "Best of all, they can try Vessel for free! There are no commitments, and they can cancel anytime if they aren't loving early access. If, at the end of the free trial, your fans choose to stay, we'll give you $7 for each new referral." So this is NOT A GIVE AWAY IT IS A CASH GRAB. 50,000 people you want to sign up.

Why did you started on Vessel?

Are there any money problems in LinusMediaGroup?

7*50000=350000$...

that's why?

We are not getting 7$ a referral for free signups - we get 7$ a referral when people use the link and pay for an account! We are trying to get as many people on free accounts as possible.

Yeah things are a little hard around here with youtube cracking down - But I fail to see why getting you guys free accounts for a year is a bad thing for anyone :P

Unfortunately, Vessel is REALY bad.

I don´t like Youtube so I was happy to hear about new serious competition, but when I have signed up, most hope was lost. It all started with the sign-up, when they were forcing me to choose some categories, but none of the things they have presented was intriguing. They were either something I don´t care for at all or categories, where I care only for a small subcategory.

At this point I just closed it and thought I would be done with it, but they have completed the sign-up anyway and sent me an e-mail, so I decided to give it another go and clicked the link to the main page, and another disappointment has arisen. It was just hours of awkward strange, often disgusting nonsense, no diversity. So I still didn´t give up, maybe these things are just most popular and I have to search for what I prefer. I did just that, first going thru categories that were closest to me, but science was huge letdown, with just some pranks and I don´t even want to talk about it. Cars were little bit less disappointing, but had little content and even less diversity. No motorcycles in sight.

My last call to arms was the search button, I have tried about 10 searches, exactly same phrases I search for on youtube, for each one of them, the returned result was "Hmm, we couldn't find anything. Try something else?"

If you like the biggest youtube channels and are into the kind of stuff that they do, I think it is called awkward humor, you might like it, the player is quite good, it loads quickly, the buffered videos are left in the temporary memory so you can jump back. Works much better than YT, I would be little bit concerned about some lower setups and weak notebooks, but apart from that, it looks nice, works great, but has absolutely no interesting content for me. I will not come there just for earlier Linus tech tips videos.

I just hope another service open to everyone will eventually arise.

So, I too had problems with the "free year" offer.

I clicked the annotation, and filled out the form, which only asked for my email and first name. Then... nothing. I didn't get an email from vessel, I didn't progress to another form, absolutely nothing happened.

So I figured maybe I had to make an account manually, and the free offer would sync up? There's a message on the free-year referral page that says "You can also sign yourself up and start watching videos immediately over at vessel.com/linustech", so it seemed a reasonable conclusion. I went there, made an account with the normal registration form (using the same email and first name), filled out all their dumb profile-creation forms (you can't make an account unless you select 3 interests!), and that worked... except I didn't have the free year of service! WTF?

I really hope they fix this soon. I just entered an alternate email in the referral form just in case my currently free account doesn't retroactively get the year of service. But I'll be pretty annoyed if they can't fix this. Especially if I can't get the free year at all (through no fault of my own!).

I honestly would never have purchased a vessel subscription, so I'm glad this offer exists, as I am definitely willing to give it a shot with a free trial. If it's good enough, I'd be happy to pay the $3/month... but so far, I haven't been so satisfied with the experience.

Weird... PM me here and include the email which you signed up for the free year with. I'll try to get that fixed for you.

I hope we can get it fixed for you ASAP!

Is there a link for channelsuperfun and techquickie?

There will be soon. Need to get art assets and everything in order before we do!

I think the Platform itself looks great so far. The Page is well designed, and the black background color is awesome if you don't watch in full-screen.

I wouldn't use it for 100% of my video consume though, because while it might look good, it isn't that easy to find everything you want to watch.

It is OK, for 1 or 2 channels, and I will mainly use it to watch LTT anyways.

The Video quality choices are kind of poor too, but I can live with that.

I'll definitely use it the first year, at least once in a while if I need to satisfy my LTT addiction.

Hard to tell what happens after, since I don't even know what the monthly subscription cost will be.

I would rather support LTT directly, than contributing to the whole side.

But like I said, I don't know about subscription options as of now.

Looking forward to the new office. Happy for all of you, to get a better work space, I hope everything will work out the way you want it to.

PS: The Vessel LTT Channel Header is OP.  B)

Subscription costs US$2.99/month. Any way you want to support is cool with us!

Yeah the channel header is pretty sweet! Haha

Hello, i got a problem and i hope it's only me

I've sign up and the i tried to watch a video, but the video just won't play for me.

So good luck with vessel, LTT.

I'll just wait your videos in youtube  :D

What's your setup? PM me here if you don't mind. Browser/OS

Vessel pls.

You're launching a new video distribution platform to compete with YouTube, yet you have no Android app or mobile web support.

I can't watch Vessel videos on my phone or tablet. Really?

Come on.

They're working on Android :( I know it kinda sucks, but I'm hoping they'll have it ready soon.

I don't mind the idea but just trying to watch a few videos right now and the amount of buffering and pausing is starting to become annoying. Reminds me of youtube of yore except this is happening even on fibre optic lol. Those globally placed youtube cache servers serve quite a purpose. I'll try to remember to watch LTT on vessel over the year though, hopefully it gets better and I might subscribe.

My first problem is no way to use it on my mobile! I will never pay until that happens, my YouTube use is 95% on my Z2 in bed on the toilet or other times I'm bored... So any ideas when there's an app or browser support for Android?

HONESTLY it's better for us if you enjoy the platform that you're watching on - I would rather you were comfortable with the experience you had instead of pushing you to a platform you don't want to be on.

I'm actually really liking Vessel and its concept (quality, professional, useful content) and was considering to pay for it even if only for your content (although I'm sure there's more or interest there), until you guys announced that there would be a one year free subscription :D.

Also, there really is no way to watch the videos in a mobile browser. I even typed in the URL directly to the H.O.T.A.S. Warthog video (so I know the mobile site does work), but it said "This video is only available for Vessel subscribers" and redirected me to the home page, which again, only has the option to register.

Mobile viewing is something that has already been brought up, so I'll leave it be. What about the forum supports that choose to "buy you a coffee once a week?" If you already support ltt like that, should your vessel premium be free? That could make you more money by directly funding you, cutting out any middle man.

If not, doesn't that sound like double dipping? ISP's can't do that anymore...

The service doesn't seem to have the same backend as Youtube (Google) and that is really evident, I get so much buffering on HD (doesn't load sometimes) and no HD is yuck. Also what if someone downloaded the videos on vessel and started posting them somewhere, on the fourm or another youtube channel, DaliyMotion, website. What would happen?

But, if I get videos like this, a week early for just 3$/month. I guess it is pretty okay, just need to improve on that caching in the backend like Youtube (Google) does and 1080p will be usable.

P.S. The reason I asked about the downloading/uploading thing, that is how I am watching it on vessel. I start the download, go do somethings and come back and watch it. I won't upload it somewhere but it came to mind when I was downloading it and I just want to know what would happen if something did happen.

- I'm sure their back end will improve over time :P

- If it happens we will report the account and move on - I'm not super worried about it as long as our viewers are able to consistently see our content through out channels we will go through the process of removing what we can

IMO this is a good move for the future of LMG.

Please post these in the giveaway thread! :Dhttp://linustechtips.com/main/topic/333925-platform-launch-and-massive-giveaway/

The problem is that you are changing your platform, to one that it ain't mature enough for your viewers, and it's paid.

If PORNHUB or REDTUBE started giving these deals you would start LinusSexTips.

And since you don't have any girls on your mediagroup, Brandon the Asian guy would be the "girl".

This must go to a linus video.

Way to attack directly.. Why is evolution such a bad thing?

The projects never end in my line of work.

Definitely - if you still want to watch on YouTube then by all means, go for it! We want to be available to as many people, on as many platforms, as possible. That's the reason behind the addition of Vessel to our lineup.

All videos will be posted to YouTube 7 days after they are posted to Vessel. They are "timed exclusives."

Thanks for the feedback!

Definitely a weird issue. Can you either submit through their support or PM me with specific details so I can pass it on to their feedback team? Thanks!

Sorry, can you be a bit more specific?

Yep quality improvements are something they will be addressing as they go.

Let us know how the iOS app is!

1. Already brought those points up with them. They have a team working on moving to new platforms, but their time is relatively small at this point. Their focus pre-launch was on acquiring solid talent to back the platform, hopefully they'll expand soon.

2. Oh interesting... I will definitely pass this on. Can you specify which countries are affected?

Thanks for the feedback!

I will find more information, but I guess it's better just to ask for feedback on using Vessel services? It's the easier way to see who has problems and try to solve them as much as possible.

For example on my PC when I do try to access vessel via 4G network it looks mostly like this:

I'll always support Linus Media Group, but having to pay to get early access is BS.

And I don't have a cc, so it's kind of hard after this year getting early access to content even if I wanted!

I have no problem with your need to branch out to other platforms.

So far not a huge fan of vessel though. Though I probably will pay eventually if you still throw content there after a year, I'm put off by the fact that to sign up I had to subscribe to a certain number of channels to continue. What?

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

The biggest issue is that people go to YouTube to look for reviews for all sorts of things. If I want to know more about some random GPU or motherboard I'll go to YouTube. If LTT happens to have a video on said GPU or mobo I'll watch that. If LTT doesn't I'll search for another channel to see if they have one. I'm not going to wonder "hmmm, maybe they've uploaded it to Vessel but not yet on YouTube, lets check that out". It's too much of a hassle and a waste of time.

Besides, last time I heard you people were strongly against things like early access and pre-orders and whatnot, yet here you are doing exactly that.

Ye ole' train

My issue with the Vessle is I usually see Linustechtip on my iPhone or my iPad.

And I just can't find the Log in on the mobile page.

Maybe it could be some where on the page but the only thing i could see is the sign in form. despite i could find the login button at the PC ver.

At the end, I searched out an App, with out any notification on the mobile front page, and was able to login from  there.

And another one, a very small one, is there is no link on the Details.
