GTX 970 Owners Club

It looks like the Elpida memory is better than the Samsung & we all know better than the Hynix.

Best out of my Samsung is 2106.  Hopefully I can try in winter when its cooler. Now even at night it's 25c overnight.

I will probably have to leave this group soon, ordered my 980 ti today. This one http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5710#kf

Will sell my 970 for just under €300.

Looking forward to another overclocking adventure.

Got my 980 ti today, gonna use what I learned from my 970 to edit the hell out of the ln2 bios from my gigabyte windforce extreme card (runs under 50°C under full load at full fan speed so dies gunn' be gut).

Directly edited the vcore to 1.325v instead of 1.275 (the card should take it).

It seems that the memory chips are very sensible to temperature.

I just changed my crappy 2 120mm intake fans for some "fancy" high airflow 140mm ones. The difference is not that big, 2-4 ºC.

But I can get higher clocks. 1581 core and 4000 on memory with 1.212V.

Got a pretty "meh" score, considering my CPU http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/10731709?

But thank you very much for all the help guys, specially @Gofspar

Just an FYI to those having problems overclocking their GTX 970. Use the tool supplied by the vendor of your graphics card (or try them all if the vendor of your card doesn't make one). The voltage might not be set correctly resulting in unstable overclocks and bad overclocking overall. I look so foolish after finding that out.

Some problems here.

1.275 bios flashed.TDP all the way to 140 in afterburner with 1565/2000.

When I run firestrike the gpu downclock itself sometimes and gpuz perfcap reason says green in those moments, same in The Witcher 3 and Dying Light.

Any ideas? This is getting me crazy.

That means power limit. Probably cause the power limit is still limited to 250W. If you look at the power table in that bios, there are multiple sets of settings. The first set still says 250W def and max. I have both of those set to 310W, and then in the lower set that controls settings you'll see in programs like afterburner, def is 310W as well, while the max is 320W. I have no issues with such a config, so I suggest trying that.

Why? They all do the same things, except some have an extra option to set minimum voltage.

Same. Perfcap reason still green sometimes and the gpu is downclocking.

Should I increase it? Maybe 350-360?

Thanks for your help sir

I think I see where the issue is. The default voltage is still 250W, while the max power limit is set to 350W. I think Nvidia cards don't like anything over 100% power limit. So set the default power limit to 310W. It works for me.

Something like this?

I have tried and the issue persist. Maybe setting max voltage to 320 instead of 350?

Yeah that's how mine is set up, but I have the G1 Gigabyte card. What percentage does the GPU power reach when it throttles? Does it hit 100%?

Well then your issue seems to be that you need more power on default, so set a higher wattage than 310W. But I think it would be too much unless you have water cooling.
