Use router with fiber optic internet such as Verizon Fios or Google Fiber

Aadi

Is it possible to use fiber optic internet with my standard Asus AC66U router...I was planning to get Verizon fios, as the internet speeds are much faster, but I heard they use a manual router...I've looked all over the internet and it seems you have to do some weird workarounds...(btw I am NOT getting Fios TV)...I think the fiber optic is uses a different connection

The best way to predict the future is to invent it

What do you mean by "manual router" and workarounds ?

You can use your router with any connection, provided that you provide the router a RJ45 plug.

If they offer a FTTH (Fiber to the home) service they will most likely provide the fiber converter for you.

Something similar to this:

If its a FTTB (Fiber to the building/box) service you will get an ordinary ethernet cable that you can plug into the Asus.

Something wrong with your connection ?

Run the damn cable :)

Along with what rufee said, this converter will be provided to you from your ISP and is not going to be something you have to supply yourself.
