err..

Just now I turned my pc on, and something made a horrible sounding "grinding" noise, when it got to the post screen, it went to the "overclocking failed" screen and said cpu fan was screwed up, I think it was my h100i pump, I went into the bios and it seemed to be ok so I started up, it went away but IDK what caused it :s

Check your fans, my silverstone air penetrators sometimes make the same noise and (though it may not be the best way) to fix it i just slam my hand down on the case and it stops. If its not that it also could be bubbles in the pump.

My System Specs: (Short list) i7 4770k, GTX 780, many SSD's, a 2 TB HDD(deceased :( ), Corsair 650D. Full list: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/kchriz6097/saved/8dh7YJ

Upgrade Plan: Acquire some Black Noctuas then add 16 or 32GB of 2133MHz memory

It went away, maybe it was bubbles in the pump, because my pump LED turned to red which I think means it was having an issue of some sort

  • 2 weeks later...

this just happened again this morning when I turned it on, the fan LED turned red and there was a horrible grinding noise.  After a few seconds it went away, and it's working fine so idk..

2nd time it's made this noise on startup now, worried about something being screwed up

I think u got the same prob as me, grinding/crackling noise right?

mine was due to what seems to be some air bubbles in the loop, but I got seidon 120XL, so not going to open the loop :|

however mine is going really bad lately and I just got a deal on XSPC water cooling kit, so yea going to change soon.

I think the pump is acting up, it might be breaking itself due to the airbubbles and not moving any water in the loop.

yea its like a grinding noise, but it stops after a few seconds.. But the LED turns red, which I'm assuming means there is some issue?

It doesnt happen everytime i start my pc, but if it sits for 10+ hours then i turn it on, it does it.

(its happened 2 times outta the last 10 or so startups.

I'm going to buy a 900d in a week or so and buy 2 480mm rads and go nuts, so I think i'll RMA my h100i and sell the new one I get to help pay for it.

depending on how the rad is installed, tip the case slightly to have the hoses at

the lowest point of the angle. retest by cycling the pc on and off for minimal times.

3-5sec (easiest is POST and enter UEFI, wait 10sec and power down. repeat ten

times. what your trying to do is move any trapped air in the pump or lines into the

radiator, tipping the case with bias to trapping the air in the non-hose end or radiator.

if this is successful, i usualy will shim the rad to replicate a similar angle to trap that

air so it doesn't re-enter the hoses.

if it continues, you might want to start a Request RMA at corsair.

send it rma it as quickly as you can just dont worry about what the problem is becus you might void the warranty if you take it apart or something like that

Yep that's about the same problem with me, I've just finished changing my seidon to a custom loop, now bleeding the air bubbles out.

Not worth waiting to see what's going to happen on that, my pump gave out just before my new one comes in, just rma it asap :)

My step dad recently bought a "racing" radiator for his race truck, and he mentioned it was all aluminum, I asked him about other radiators made of copper and asked if it would be better, he said aluminum is a better heat dissipator.

I've heard stuff about copper being better at absorbing heat, but aluminum dissipating it better, is this true? and if so, would it be better to buy an aluminum radiator for my watercooling build that's upcoming, (if they make them in 480mm)

hopefully someone can shine some light upon this :D
