Mini-News: XBox One wireless adpater for its controller for PC coming later in the year

GoodBytes

At GDC, Microsoft announced today that it is working to release a wireless adapter for the XBox One control for PCs running Windows.

No information if the adapter would be sold separately or part of a controller bundle for PC, like the XBox 360 had.

msft-gdc-2015-DSC04947.0.0.jpg

This adapter would allow you to play using your XBox One controller with your PC without any wires. Currently you need to be plugged in via the USB cable.

Microsoft said it is coming later this year.

No information on price.

Windows 10 will allow you to stream XBox One games to any system running the OS. Microsoft previously said they are researching in doing the reverse as well (PC gaming streamed to XBox One, for TV play).

^This..

I hope they come up with a nicer product then the 360 dongle thingy I would have moved it into my case and hidden it with one of those little USB 2.0 motherboard headers to single port USB things Linus showed awhile ago except I need to press the damn button to bind new controllers to it. I want to be able to press that button in software so I don't need it using a external port I have none left as is(I know it could replace my 360's but I'd rather free up the port)

The thing about controllers being wireless wasn't a prediction, it was one of the bullet points from the article.

Doesn't make it a great quality post like you normally deliver, but eh.

I was thinking about doing that but the cable for it is so long

I have enough space in my Phantom 530 to stash the dongle and cable behind my motherboard tray (over an inch clearance) but then I'd need remove my side panel to add controllers. I still have 4 of my 360's set up that my cousins(all under 13) play when I'm baby sitting them so I do at times need to bind the controllers back to the consoles then back to my pc

I may do that when I upgrade cases to either a 450D or H440

I really like the new direction of Microsoft.

I have a feeling that if Satya Nadella was there before the XBox One launched, the XBox One controller would be standard Bluetooth, and just work with everything.

Kind of like the pc release of gta v, I would care more if they did it when it was relevant. They waited so long to let pc users use the wireless xbox one controller for absolutely no technical reason, other than their overarching desire to punish pc gamers and makes use wait to see if we'll cave over to the dark side and buy consoles, that I really don't care anymore about the xbox one control. The spark of interest has long gone out.

This should ALREADY be a thing!

When the consoles dropped at launch, IMO their controllers 'should, in an ideal world' be released to the PC market too once drivers are done...

It's doesn't seem that hard....if past controllers are anything to go by...

Straight away people would jump on it (this threads response), it's not like we wouldn't buy them, they'd have their millions of moneys...

/Rant

I want it now, by the time it comes, enthusiasm will be depleted.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

A word of warning to anyone hoping to move completely to the XB1 controller: some games have an issue where having an XB1 controller connected makes them stutter like crazy, I was playing Kingdoms of Amalur with an i7/970 combo and couldn't work out why the hell the frames dropped so rapidly. Switched to iGPU, same thing, then I looked up and realised I had the XB1 controller plugged in. Removed it and switched to a 360 controller, experienced zero frame drops. I assume it will only affect older titles and no longer be an issue once driver updates roll out. etc, but it's something to keep a note of.

Too bad the 360 controller is better.

That is completely subjective personally I find that the xbox one controller that I have is much more conformable than the xbox 360 one that I have

This is great to hear, sadly I don't like the Xbone controller and I prefer wired. So X360 it is.

This is great news as I've been using the controller wired since launch of windows support. However the next step should now be to update the directx controller input (I believe that's the API for the controller) to allow support for the rumble triggers too.

Microsoft also announced today, "All wireless Xbox gaming accessories will be designed for and supported on both Xbox One consoles and Windows 10 PCs moving forward." That's definitely good news since Microsoft is promoting its cross-buy and even cross-play plans for games released for the Xbox One and Windows 10 device.

At GDC 2015, Microsoft announced plans to release a wireless adapter for Xbox One controllers on Windows later this year.

The adapter will be sold sometime later in 2015 but a price point was not mentioned.
