People really like to forget Fermi for some reason. Yields were terrible, the whole generation was a mess and they couldn't even produce enough parts for a single demo piece for their "big reveal" back then. This is what they showed us, you can read the rest of the story simply by searching for "Nvidia woodscrews":

That was just not my time, but looks really funny ^^

3072 Maxwell Cuda and 12GB VRAM as total overkill... I´ll buy 3!

3 of these and 3 4k RoG Swifts.

even if it could only use 11,5GB of VRAM it would still be a gigantic amount  :P

I'm waiting for the first 6 Slot card which has 2 PCIE slot connectors, and takes 6 slots.

But I guess this will do.  But in this day and age I was hoping for at least.. ah you know 64GB VRAM.

I expect single slot like Ares III.

And put it in a mini ITX PC!

Nah I´ll pass on three RoG 4K Swifts, but one will be my new main monitor. 4K sexyness with G-Sync and IPS, I´ll take it!

64GB probably won't happen till HBM hits workstation cards. It'll take up too much PCB space and likely not have enough bandwidth otherwise.

Beast card.  But is it worth it? Probably not.  Maybe if I win the lottery I'll 2-way SLI a couple of them.  Or if it's a single GPU card, I'll quad 'em. But only if I win the lottery.

JUST GREAT this is original Titan all over again. I'm just going to patiently wait till May when they announce the 6GB 1080 w/ the 1000 series Maxwell refresh. And laugh even harder when AMD decides to announce 390X within the next few weeks that matches its performance for half the cost.

Except there won't be a 980 Ti.  Nvidia doesn't mix and match product names with different chips.  Ti always signifies a fully unlocked core, and the 980 is already fully unlocked.

But the 390X will be it for AMD. Top of the hill. For all we know the 980 Ti will stomp it once they announce it after. And then Nvidia will come back at the end with the uber Titan X Black.

This is what happens when you're last to the starting line. You don't get to set the marketing and product release pace. AMD has to play catch-up. Nvidia can release more and more powerful cards as they please. 980 Ti and Titan X sales won't amount to even 10% I reckon, but its all about the brand power and marketing.
