How in the name of Zeus do the Titan cards hold back gaming GPUs? 

What??

 

We never got a 6GB 780ti because that would cannibalize Titan sales. We didn't get an early 780 (not the same core count, I know, but similar enough) because of the original Titan. You know, actual gaming GPUs that don't cost 1000 bucks because of features that are irrelevant to gaming.

if the blower fan lights up then I am considering to have a boner, especially if it would be (altough i doubt) a customizable RGB light :D

 

We'll see what comes out of this one, I've bought my ticket to the hype-express-railway.

Does anybody know the specs?

12 (11.5 gb) vram, 3072 cuda cores (?). GeForce website hasn't been updated yet (atleast I read it on instagram :D)

Is this meant to be gaming titan or workstation titan ?

I lost track after 1st titan was released with DP feature... There was like 2 more titans I didn't pay attention to.

If you think about it by now releasing this new Titan it puts a performance ceiling on any other GPU they release till the next series drops, since they wont want to come within a certain percentage of performance to the new Titan. So in a way it does hold back further advances in performance at least till the next generation of gaming GPU's

Yes, they held back the release of the 780 and of a 6GB 780ti. I'm not "upset" that they cost a lot, I'm upset that they are marketed as gaming GPUs, presented as developer cards and end up being glorified "early releases" or higher memory versions for literally double the price. That's bullshit, there's a good reason why quadro and geforce GPUs exist, the Titan is an inbetween bastard that holds back specific releases and cards for the gaming crowd because they can sell it at double the price. Defending it makes no sense, why would you willingly pay double the price for the same GPU that you could have otherwise?

cue titan release comparison...
so 980ti and titanX black edition to follow once enough of these have been sold then... making every 980 and soon titan owner cry as thier card isnt so awesome anymore.
followed by a price drop once enough of those have been sold and amd kicks thier arse with 300 series.
there was a reason i switched.

With a 12GB framebuffer and 3072 cuda cores, workstation is looking more likely.
