Admin Blocked Me From Getting Extensions On Chrome Store

Our school uses chromebooks, probably said that a million times by now, but they blocked sites and the usual but when it said that the extension was blocked by admin I got mad. No were in our dumb little contract that we signed did it say anything about blocking extensions on the chrome store. It said they have a key logger, can track your online history, and can make changes to your chromebook. All I wanted was the Chrome Remote Desktop extension but now I can't. I started thinking and thought that I could download the extension and put it on a USB and then run it on my chromebook. But the only way is to download it from the chrome store. Any ideas on how to get it and tell my school they didn't tell us this?

Just keeping this here as a Our school uses chromebooks, probably said that a million times by now, but they blocked sites and the usual but when it said that the extension was blocked by admin I got mad. No were in our dumb little contract that we signed did it say anything about blocking extensions on the chrome store. It said they have a key logger, can track your online history, and can make changes to your chromebook. All I wanted was the Chrome Remote Desktop extension but now I can't. I started thinking and thought that I could download the extension and put it on a USB and then run it on my chromebook. But the only way is to download it from the chrome store. Any ideas on how to get it and tell my school they didn't tell us this?

I have my own laptop but it is an old 2009 Mac that is too slow to do anything.

 

I signed a contract with the school saying they can monitor me and if I look up bad things then I can get in trouble. Nothing to do with extension though.

 

Use the Mac... a mac from '09 is still better than a laptop from '03...

My school did something like that with me. When you sign in to chrome using your school email they automatically install a screen monitoring program where they can watch what you do. I basically just deleted the profile and then the extension data. If they were smart they would of removed your write access to the chrome extensions file. Click here and that shows you how they did it. If you have admin rights on your laptop you can undo it, if not then im not sure :(

honestly we use chromebooks for school. trust me when I say that chromebook is way nicer to use then a celeron machine with 1 gig of ram running win 7. yeah it works, but damn the chromebook is nice. if all you need is web browsing, IE school, its a solid device. 

 

 

dude, its a free device from the school, kids tear shit up. leave it be, its not the end of the world. if you want to modify/change a device, buy your own. 

 

If I let you burrow something, the last thing I want is you messing with it. mutiply that by the 100s of kids that get these. I promise you a bunch will be screwed up in some way when they get back. they are just trying to minimize the loses.

I get were you are coming at but I mean no harm to the school. I even bought insurance on it for $20 so if it breaks they fix it for free. All I wanted to do was use my computer at how at school so I could use files that were not supported on chromeOS.

We didn't pay for it.

 

I have my own laptop but it is an old 2009 Mac that is too slow to do anything.

 

I signed a contract with the school saying they can monitor me and if I look up bad things then I can get in trouble. Nothing to do with extension though.

I get were you are coming at but I mean no harm to the school. I even bought insurance on it for $20 so if it breaks they fix it for free. All I wanted to do was use my computer at how at school so I could use files that were not supported on chromeOS. 

I get where your coming from to, but Its easier to lock it down once then fix anything kids screw up. If you limit something down, less things can go wrong or cause problems.

 

Its not really to hurt techies, its more so people who have no idea what they are doing dont download extensions that rape their chromebook, and return rape all the chromebooks on the network, or something.

 

Itd be nice if you could register to take full responsibility of a device, so you get unrestricted access but if you screw up, you buy the school a new one

If it is on loan to you and must be returned at some point there is nothing you can do, you must follow whatever guidelines they have in place for it's use. If it was given to you for use and is not expected back then it has been 'paid for' in some fashion by you, be it class fees or school tuition that incorporated it's cost somewhere along the line and at that point your free do with it as you please.

I would highly appreciate that but that is science fiction for me. I might go and talk to a teacher or IT person to review their policy. I am leaning more towards bringing my old laptop but it isn't the most practical thing when it is a 17 inch screen and ways about 6 pounds...

I have my own laptop but it is an old 2009 Mac that is too slow to do anything.

 

Really? I have a 2009 MacBook, and its blazing fast, didn't even install a SSD yet, just upgraded the memory.

Does it have 8 gigs in it? When I check how much is used it says 3.8 out of 4 gigabytes.

Does it have 8 gigs in it? When I check how much is used it says 3.8 out of 4 gigabytes.

Maybe your in need of a reinstall. That ram usage seems really high, even for windows.

Yea its 8gbs, I upgraded mine, and mine is the highest end 13 inch model, maybe thats why?
