OBS bitrate

minibois

Quick question, what kind of bitrate in OBS is acceptable?

My friend records with it on his.. Not so great laptop.

What kind of bitrate is acceptable ?

(recording, not streaming. It's gameplay + overlay + webcam feed)

I record at 6000 bitrate, NVidia encoding on high.

Planning on trying StarCitizen (Highly recommended)? STAR-NR5P-CJFR is my referal link

try it yourself and fine one that you think is good enough while not making huge files

I use shadowplay at 50Mbps and it looks great, but each recording program is different

Heres what Nvidia Shadowplay looks like @ 50Mbps @ 1080p 60fps. (Darkman was talking in the backround.)

For 1080p at 30FPS, 16Mbps would be good. Higher will make the image more crisp, but will result in a much greater file size.

twitchTV considers 3.5Mbps their maximum, and most streamers find that to be ideal for 720p 60fps.

some streamers also consider it good for 1080p 60fps.

but for recording you can go higher, and compress it down a bit in editing.

Edit: The below only applies to streaming, l2 read the op next time David sheesh

For streaming, Twitch's maximum "acceptable" bitrate is 3500 although they will let you use higher but OBS will shout at you for it. 3500 is what you should be using if you can, this is sufficient for 720p 60fps, 3000 if not, still 720p 60fps but looks a bit worse, 2500 if not that (720p maybe 60fps more likely 45fps) and so on. 1000 bitrate is NOT good enough. 1000 bitrate will get you a 30fps 480p video that will look absolutely shit. Do not use 1000 bitrate.

As an example, everything in this playlist is 3500 bitrate 720p 60fps. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLf27BHuLrQCbsyVlfTkE_GqKky07panDq
