Seems cool.

I can see some uses for this, it's not for me but I do know a few people that would use something like this.

And why two 128GB SSD's why not just a single 256, I get raid but really was that needed?

I view it as retarded to dock the laptop. I like alienware's solution because (at least on the 17, the only one with HDMI input) you can actually game on the laptop's screen and have the dock away from the laptop.  

With MSI's solution, you might as well just build a desktop. 

 

That's right. Alienware did something better.

That said, I'm glad to see desktop GPUs on laptops finally. As long as the interface is there, I can mod it to my uses likely. 

I would like somehting like alienware's solution avaible on a laptop the size of the msi one, and I would love other manufacturers to do video input like alienware has. 

They are the only one's that do it. 
It's a fucking pass-though. It's not hard or expensive. It's adds a lot, you can connect a game console or your desktop to it and game in bed. Game on the go. Use the laptop as a second screen. My m18x has it and it's fucking awesome and it sucks that only alienware  behemoths have it. It would be nice to have this on something light and thin.

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it. 

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff. 

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

Yes you can. It's just like a normal card. the traditional MXM laptop GPU interface is just mostly a repinned pcie, all this is doing is basically acting as an adapter.

And, I'm sorry but @LinusTech, you're crazy. If the laptop itself was cheaper, and if the dock wasn't massive, and if they made the GPU box hot-swappable then it would be pretty cool....But as it stands now, it's just so much easier (and cheaper) to have a dedicated desktop for gaming + a laptop (with better battery life) for the same amount of money.

Not really.

 

The whole purpose is to have a lightweight Notebook for general work usage (although that MSI Gaming badge is a bit not work friendly) or day to day usage and then when you come home, dock it to your dock and have a baller gaming experience.

 

This product reeks of first Generation issues. I hope they continue to refine the idea and sell well enough to encourage other manufacturers to develop products as well

The circumference of earth is 24,901 miles at the widest point. 24,901/2 is 12450.5

Considering I don't live on the equator, but rather in fort wayne, Indiana, I'm sure the max distance is shorter since the earth isn't perfectly round.
