my opinion : NEED MOAR where is my 4k !!!

 

Thanks to a new leaked photo, we have learned that LG is planning to use a 3K display with some crazy resolution in its upcoming flagship smartphone. We still don't know G4's display size, but rumours point out to a slightly smaller 5.3-inch display.

With 1,620 x 2,880 pixels resolution, a pixel density would be around 626 pixels-per-inch, which is pretty impressive. For comparison, the Galaxy S5 with its 5.1-inch has 576-ppi. As we are waiting for the second quarter for the announcement, we hope there will be some new details soon.

I have to ask... Why? I can't see any benefit, it's just going to drain battery. IMO 1080p is enough for a 5 or so inch phone.

serisouly even 720p is decent enough for 5 inches. I would rather have much better battery life. I wonder why they don't make 900p phones. That seems like the sweet spot.

I have an HTc M8, that has a good 1080p screen. I who got used to this resolution I think (but it might be placebo effect) I see some difference, if the two screen is next to each other

but as soon as I view normal videos, like youtube videos and HD movies, all I see is a screen with extremely crisp picture and bright colours.

 

It is not necessary, but good feature

 

 

But please, make laptops have larger res cheap screen, and if it could drive monitor prices down that would be pleasent

I notice 1440p on my G3, but even then it's because I have more trained eyes for higher resolutions. However, I highly doubt I'm going to notice the jump from 1440p to 3k, it will cause more problems than it's worth

I'd go as far as a 1440 screen on a 5.5-6 inch smartphone. But this is absurd.

 

Guess it's to be expected since LG is a screen manufacturer... but ugh. I like the G3, but I don't know if I can live with the G4 if it has the battery life of a camera drone.

Haha, I'd love to see how this affects battery life. Still, I don't see any problem with companies experimenting with this kind of thing.

Who knows, maybe it'll have some great effect we don't know about. Most likely not, but still.

Also...you people really need to understand marketing and think about the less educated tech population. Which is most of the world.

They'll buy it because of the huge numbers. "Hey, my phone's got a 3K!!! screen!! Way better. Is best bro."

As long as I can last a day, the battery life is fine. Until they can actually reach a FULL 2 days. There's no point in saying "yeah, I can last a day, and then half way through the second" or "most of the way through the second". If you can't last, then you'll be charging the night before anyway.

I'd say probably 85 - 90% of cell phones are under 1080p. Maybe more.

You can't lump them all into the flagships.

A 5" 900p display is still 367ppi. There is no way that isn't enough. And if it isn't for you you should probably take for phone directly off you eyeballs.

They do the 3K thing cuz there's no other 'innovation" they can think about.

 

They release phones faster than new mobile hardware is made, so they add all these gimmicks to justify upgrading from a G3
