Think that about sums it up. What happened? I remember when people wanted to earn gear (that is what a damn RPG is about), or compete. Now we have lag switches, aimbots, bots that play for you (what the hell), prestige hacks day 1 on COD on consoles. Were they picked on in school? Were they just handed everything to them? 

 

Anyone else an older game who was around before all this crap?

Lag switches and aimbots are just for people that aren't good.

I have never used one but I somewhat see the appeal of bots that do stuff for you and this game might irrelevant by now but I remember when Runescape had a bunch of people being banned for using stuff like that.

I think prestige hacks are used for some of the reasons that bots are used. People are just lazy and they don't want to play to actually level up.

I'm not an "older gamer" but even I remember the days before almost anyone could just download a file and ruin a game for everyone else.

Everquest the original back in the day.  With Alternate Advancement Skills..  God I miss the fuck out of that game.

I never got into EQ. I played WoW in 2009 during the economic down turn when I got laid off from my job for 3 months straight day in day out every day while I was collecting pogey LOL.

I was 5 or 6 when I got my Atari 2600. Generation X grew up on video games. The later era of baby boomer's still plays video games. The era of video games is something that is foreign to the modern education system. They do not understand pseudoscience or the inner workings of a human brain and how it's exercised firing neurons while gaming. There are hackers but I just play through them and eventually the get banned or lose interest because nobody wants to play with cheaters.

Back "then" computer games were mostly part of nerdy and geeky people, nowayads basically everyone plays videogames

That means more people plays them whose life might not revolve around it, and while I am against the aimbots and other performance enchanting cheats, but I am alright with prestige hacks. why? because there are many people who do not have time to play 50 hours and get every weapon, but they might want to have fun a few hours a week. and IF the game is balanced right, it should not affect the game itself

Sure I'd like to play with others, but if I'm playing with them, it better be a clash of skills not cash... not bots... not hardware specs...

I actually liked some of the bots in Diablo 2.

There were bots that automatically made a game and did a boss run with a pretty good character then made a new game and did it again and again. The reason it was nice was because they often didn't take loot, they simply did boss runs which everyone could join. If you played a lot with multiple characters, it was an easy way to level up. It was especially good because it was an easy way to do runs organized. Usually there was one person who made the games, and when that player got tired it often just stopped completely.

 

However, that more of a special case of botting, so it doesn't really matter.

Really? I definitely remember extensive hacking in very old games as well. How old is Punkbuster, like 15 years now? Players throughout gaming history have abused every advantage they could squeeze out of a game, it's human nature.

 

I think in some ways it's gotten better, it took many years for developers to adapt to cheating enough to even put in an effort to police it.

I hate how things have become these days. We have all of what has been mentioned plus the stuff that is underpinning it and enabling it all. The pay2play, pay2win, one time only, time limited item, the lock box and micro transaction paradigm, the seasonal event and the whole questing methodology. All factors to deprecate and disperse the ideology of community. Things are very different now than how they used to be.

The fact that they had 16 months to work on it to get it out until January, but still never bothered to even do that. The fact that we only got it last so they could rake in extra sales from people buying multiple copies. If PC gamers are still willing to buy the game after that then I don't know how you can say that we're superior to console gamers in this regard.
