Why do gamers consider 24" the sweet spot ?

Dicehunter

I've spoken to lots of gamers throughout the years and nearly all swear that you should not get a monitor that is above 24" if it's 1080P due to the pixel density.

Now I've gamed on both 24" and 27" 1080P monitors and I'm not seeing the difference, Am I missing something ?

I do, anything smaller is too small and anything bigger is too big. But 1080p @ 24" looks like crap as well, and 27" would just be ungodly. (To clarify, 1080p@24" isn't terrible in games, but on the desktop it's awful)

If you sit far enough away from the 27" monitor compared with the 24" monitor then you wont be able to tell the pixel density apart.

I'd personally prefer a 27" 1440p monitor, though even a 24" 1080p monitor would be an improvement over the 22" or so 1680x1050 monitor I've got now...

I'd say generally because of the pixel density being pretty decent for the distance they normally would sit from the panel, and its not too large too.

For 1080p 24" is the sweat spot as it is not Too blurry, but as soon as you go past 24" resolutions generally get higher, I have a 28" 4k monitor because if 4k was 24" it would look weird with all those pixels crammed into a smaller screen

It's considered the optimal dpi:size ratio for 1080p monitors.

I disagree, I would love a 4k 24" monitor, I just wish the scaling didn't suck (and that a 4k IPS monitor would be like $300).

No, I dont like >24" monitors. And having a 28" monitor would push my second monitor too far out to comfortably use.

I would really like a 1440p monitor, even at 1080p I occasionally see pixels and just general ewness

I like the size of 24" to 27" because it's still good in terms of not seeing pixels at 1080p. Anything larger becomes a problem not because pixel density, but because I start noticing how much I physically have to move my head.

For gaming, I'm not sure why. Maybe because as soon as you have to start head tilting to see a blind spot in your peripheral it slows down reaction time etc?

24" is what I use.

Personally I love my 1080P@27 inch. I don't get what people are talking about when it comes to pixel density at 1080P@27 because unless I lean in really close I cannot notice the individual pixels. I would hate to have to use anything under 27 inches but I would like to upgrade to a 1440P monitor just for more productivity room :)

because at 2 feet anything bigger than 24" is too big, there are always exceptions of course. Some people like 27 or 32 for their main display.

As funny as this is somehow I don't think that's the case, LtRavens explanation makes more sense, Blind spots and peripheral vision etc...

Doesn't though does it.

I know plenty of people with triple monitor setups, Each monitor being 24" and all have powerful systems, Hell even Jay from Jayz2cents uses 24" monitors in his triple screen setup and he's far from broke or a child.

Trust me, it's not a money issue. I have $3k sitting in paypal that I literally don't know what to do with. Why am I still using two 24" 1080p monitors? Because 1) I hate anything bigger than 24" as it's uncomfortable to use, and 2) I'm not insane enough to spend $1200+ on two 4k IPS panels. Not to mention the scaling for 4k still sucks.

And you do realize not everyone sits the same distance from their monitors, or has the room for 27" monitors. I sit 16" away from my monitors, anything bigger than 24" would suck to use.

You seriously need to learn how to calm yourself down since you're arguing over something, which are you 100% wrong about.

For competitive gaming, there are reasons. Starcraft, Dota etc. restrict your FoV to a locked rate, anything bigger will just make things bigger and more cumbersome to play around with, whereas with smaller screens you get everything clearly laid in front of you.

For immersion, productivity use, bigger with more pixels is better. Pixel density has it's limits too... I'll take 40" 4K over 27" 4K any day of the week.
