Recommended Posts

Posted · Original PosterOP

I am going to build a server, with UnknownLobster's BlackDwarf, in min, but with M-ITX, M-ATX compatibi andATX PSU, and a different design.

I have a low budget, so its's gonna be a struggle, but I am going to do it!
What i dont have:
More Seagate Barracuda 2TB drives
Passive or silent cooler

What i have:
Metal
Spraypaint
CPU: Intel i3 2120
MB: Asrock H61
OS (Server 2012)
PSU: NZXT Hale90 750W
Raidcard: Intel

Final hardware:

Hardware:

Case: Halfway home made: (http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/29613-home-made-case-server-build-blue-lightning/page-19#entry2938083)

CPU: I7 860 /w some Zalman cooler

Mobo: Gigabyte GA-P55-UD5

RAM: 4GB

PSU Corsair CX600

2x 3 Drive 5.25" Hotswap Cages

Storage:

SSD: Intel 520 240GB

HDD1: Seagate 2TB (7200RPM)

HDD2: Seagate 2TB (7200RPM)

HDD3: Seagate 2TB (7200RPM)
HDD4: WD AV-GP 3TB
HDD5: WD AV-GP 3TB
HDD6: WD AV-GP 3TB

The side panels, the top and the front is going to be made from scratch, and the rest modified!
The top is going to be Lexan and Aluminum

I got lots of help from my uncle (It was his idea with front nr. 2) (to the right), and my grandad (to the left):
post-266150-0-43206200-1375833299_thumb.

Current shot, runnning FreeNAS, but still not done, as I am in the process of moving:

And some "fun" pics of how I get internet into my room:

Looks interesting buddy, will sub for more :D

Putting it on wheels though, that's a first! Are you going to be moving it around a lot?

Is this the real life? Or is this just fantasy?

Thanks!

Both yes, and no :P I am going to be moving it around a bit, but not very much! The reason for putting it on wheels, are that i am probably going to slide it under a desk, or something like that ;)

But on topic: I am thinking of going for the passive choice, because it is less likely to fail :)

I am going to start building the case soon, any more inputs?

Which OS do you recommed? I was thinking Windows Server 2012, because I can get it for free...

I am also going to test everything in a Fractal Design R4 I have laying around, do you want pics of that, or only of the construction?

Well I have decided  to go with 4x2TB, and upgrade later, but should i run FreeNas, or Windows Server 2012?

I would suggest Server 2012
