Decrease GPU voltage to improve stability?

Currently running my 980 at +238mhz with power and temp targets maxed out and a custom fan curve with +50mV to the voltage. I have noticed my GPU goes up to 79 Celsius and then crashes when overclocking. Will decreasing voltage help with this?

At stock this doesn't happen with GPU happily sitting at 83 degrees with standard fan curve

By crash, drivers? If so, it is not stable at those speeds, lowering voltage won't work, lower the clocks a little bit...

Are u sure about this?

+238 really is a lot. Voltage is boosted to add stability, lowering it would be the same as lowering stability.

 

Try increasing the fan speeds. Also, try lowering clock speeds a bit.

My 970 actually overclocks better with stock voltage. It gets less stable with increased voltage and some times it throttles. Every card is different so you just have to try it out, generally you should get better frequencies with higher voltage.
